Knuckles has to be my favorite character, followed closely by Sonic.

As for the games I haven't liked a sonic title since Adventure 1 & 2 (2 was not as good as 1) and after those two games the series has been driven relentlessly into the ground.

I actually like both the 3D and 2D Sonic games. I don't care what anyone says. Adventure and Adventure 2: Battle were great.
What are your opinions?
Princess Sally Acorn.

She was in Sonic Spinball, so she counts.
Also a highly developed character in Archie Comics' Sonic comic books, which I read profusely for nearly 100 issues.

^^;; Well, yes. Although I was thinking of the DiC animated TV series that the comic was based on.

The DVD boxed set proudly adorns my DVD shelf.

I'm of the opinion that they should have stopped making characters after Sonic CD. After that, the series had a hero, a villain, a sidekick, a rival, a girl and a robotic clone of the main character. You do not need more characters than that.
Very true. But Shadow was still pretty cool....
Maybe, but I found him to be "cool" in the most gratingly unoriginal way (at least after SA2: he was tolerable in his first appearance, though no less generic). Gamma was probably the coolest character in SA1, but he's better off staying "dead".

I suppose Rouge could also have a place in the series, if only to keep the shippers/furries happy.

He got cooler for me in "Shadow the Hedgehog" because he just got 100% more badass.

I've always liked Shadow since Adventure 2 was one of the first Sonic games I encountered. As for the games, I love the 2D games and like some of the 3D games. My favorite game in the whole series though is Sonic CD.

I'd have to say Sally Acorn too, but she's not on the list so I put Sonic. I spent my childhood with the first 3 games and fleshed out his character far better than SEGA has ever attempted to do, -that- sonic will never stop being my favourite character.

Sonic Adventure 2 was the first sonic game I played, so I have a fondness for Shadow. Shame that Sonic team screwed around with him so uch due to his popularity. :(

You do realize you are describing an angsty, amnesiac 3-foot-tall anthropomorphic hedgehog who curses mildly and inexplicably uses a gun?

Are you sure you don't mean funny in a really bad way? I mean, how is this in any way badass?

If you made him a human in a game that would've fit him as a human, he would've been badass.

Not really. It definitely wouldn't have been as funny. Look, the point is, Shadow's past is kind of stupid. He's an genetics experiment that bonded with a child who got killed by the government. Thats incredibly unoriginal, and its not meaningful or interesting despite that because his past never serves as anything more than an excuse for Shadow to angst: Shadow doesn't really learn anything from it, and that makes any kind of moving past that feel completely contrived. The reason why badasses always have dark backstories are so they have demons to confront that contrast with any of their positive traits: Shadow never confronts his past, and doesn't really have any heroic qualities(by the time of his starring role), so why bother focusing on his past at all? How can such an exaggerated character, human or hog, be a basass?

And, now that I've gotten all that pretentiousness out of the way, I will say that watching him use a machine gun thrice his size is kind of cool.

I actually agree. They were fun games. I would've personally preferred more speed sections though, they were the most polished part of the gameplay. I just got bored and annoyed in the Knuckles/Rouge sections, and the Tails/Robotnik ones felt more like a minigame than the real point of the game.

Of course, these games were easier to accept as an old fan of Sonic.

I have sonic and sega all stars racing with banjo & Kazooie and I would have to say that would be my most favorite game of Segas, so for fav character I would choose Shadow because He is good choice for the racing game.

Quoted for truth. Instead of adding more one-dimensional characters, maybe they should actually develop the ones they have if they're going to give the series a story. Sure, each character has a role to fulfill, but if you're going to tell a story, you need MORE than that. You have to give the characters a reason to do what they do and to have the personalities and relationships that they have. Right now, the characters have fewer dimensions than a cardboard box.
And IF Sega continues to attempt to give the series a story, they need to make it GOOD. I might actually, you know, BUY another Sonic game if I didn't have to put up with the half-assed drivel that Sega seems content to spew out nowadays.
They also need some decent voice actors. I enjoyed the gameplay of Sonic Adventure 1 & 2, but...GOD DAMN. I think Doc was the only one with a hint of passable voice acting. I've heard the voice actors for Sonic Colors were better, but after watching some cut-scenes I can only see severely limited improvement. I can't tell whether the reason for this lack of growth is because the actors don't have that much more talent, or if they're merely constrained by the sub-par dialogue.

Tails. Tails all the way. I hate all the others (Except Shadow)

I have played all the 2-d genesis games

Adventure 2, Heroes(It was good but I HATED the voice acting on Tails), Shadow, and Unleashed(FUCK THAT GAME!!!!!)
As well as Rush and Chronicles
I want to play Adventure 1

And do not want to play '06
