There have been very few things that are dealbreakers for me in video gaming... Motion Controls, the "bethesda" tag on the front of a game... but this, by far, takes the cake as the worst thing I've ever heard.

The idea of games paid for via ads isn't necessarily a bad one from a consumer perspective, as you could use it to lower the pricing point of the game. However, this is probably the worst way they could have handled that idea. Having ads in menus and loading screens could probably work. This, however, will flat-out stop people from buying the products in question, unless we're talking about releasing games at a ridiculously low price point as compensation. Which we all know isn't gonna happen if Sony's the guys applying it.

OT: Basically what DoPo said. If they actually use this themselves though then there's no way in hell I'm going near it. It's bad enough that Youtube puts an ad in front of videos but having them randomly popping up in the middle would just be annoying bs.
I've seen a lot of people in this thread saying that it would be great if we got the games for free or at highly reduced prices. The thing is, you know this is not going to happen. They'll still charge full price and you know it. I mean, hell, microsoft put ads in xbox live and it's a PAID service. I'm just glad they put the ads in minuscule, out of the way boxes so you're not forced to watch anything. This sounds like the PS4 could just randomly interrupt your game at any point with advertising, and you'd still have paid full price for the game and everything.
I heard deus ex had advertisements during loading screens, but I honestly don't remember seeing them. Games are $60 right now and the companies publishing them will do whatever leaves them the largest profit.
We players don't want to miss out on the epic gaming experiences, so we will simply have to put up with adds in our games. I don't see a way out of it. Eventually everyone will do it. The AD revenue will just become part of the system.

It's times like this I'm glad I own a 360. I mean, don't get me wrong I know Microsoft have ads all over the dashboard. But that's the thing, because they're on the dashboard they won't need to inject the ads into gameplay. I don't know if ads are on the PS3 dash because I've never owned one. But from what I've seen they don't.
I guess they couldn't figure out a way to product placement in a fantasy game?
But seriously, the idea of slowing down the game to sell me whatever would seriously be the end for me. I ignore the adds on Hulu but I'm usually not that immersed in the show. (Hell, most of the time I'm watching TV I'm multi-tasking with either Minecraft or reading the Escapist.) But when I'm playing a video game I'm usually focused on the story and not getting myself killed. You throw in a add for KFC in the middle of my Fantasy RPG and I'm done.

the more of these rumors that keep popping up around the next console gen, the more inclined i am to not buy a console (not counting the lack of faith in the industry to do anything more then make the next gen look better)
well, that would suck. i don't wanna be shooting nazis/zombies/russians/whatever and really getting into it just to be cut off by a head and shoulders ad. I would rage quite hard if that happened.
