Versatility. Means overall ability to be useful and adapt to situations. Always works better to have balance in things, and to keep you thinking about other ways of dealing with a situation if one option isn't effective.

Versatility. Variety is the spice of life and all that.

However, I play guitar, and I seem to have dug myself into a rut of playing one style too much, metal specifically. I can play really hard riffs, triplets, pinch harmonics and alternate picking, yet I no jack all chords; any sort of unusual chord at all and I stumble over it for ages. I can't fingerpick very well either.
Well, at least I can play lamb of god!

Versatility. I'd rather be decent at reading, math, science, and whatever else, and still be social. I wouldn't want to be a savant, who can't even tie their own shoes but they can read a book a minute, or do math as fast a a computer, or any number of other things.

If you go for specialization you can always find people who specialize in other things to make up for your flaws.

Specialization is the way to go in my opinion.
Unless it is in something that where if you find something that you don't do good against, you get killed.

Judging by my rampant altoholicism [http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=altoholic] both in game and out, chronic versatility is my path.

Surprisingly even poll so far.

Of course, one could argue that versatility is a kind of specialization, and vice versa.

Can I have both? In life I mean. I can play guitar to a pretty high standard, I can write, I can act and have acted in amateur productions, I can draw reasonably well, and with a modicum of practice I could be much better than I am. Academically I'm capable of mathematics, science, arts and humanities. I'm versatile, but everything I put my mind to I can do to a high standard.

As to characters in games, I tend towards the same sort of character. Taking my ME character, she can not only snipe the wings of a fly, but she has a close combat speciality, and is proficient with hacking, negotiation (charm) and a single biotic power. All of these are maxed out traits, but they provide for a character who is versatile, but specialised in all of the versatile fields.

In real life I'm versatile and as such choose that as the poll choice, but in video games I'm normally a specialist.

I like being damn good at nearly everything thank you very much.

I'm great at every sport I've tried except basketball. One suffers so the others can be great is versatile enough for me.

In games I tend to focus on being good at everything, like in Fallout 3 because you are alone and there is no one to help you so you have to rely on yourself. In team games I specalize in one or very few things. The rest of the team then can specialize in what you haven't.

In real life it is better to be versitile but I know that I am better at something compared to the others. Like sports. I'm only good at badminton and suck at everything else.

Specialization. I can stack it all in the "killing walrus's" stat to help me be better at that and rid the world of the core of all evil!

Specialization of versality? I hate to say it but this sounds incredibly kinky...

My crappy and fairly perverted jokes aside I pick Specialization - it's usually people like this that end up rich.
