I'm never bothered with it unless its in a review. As for myself, I try to be on my game when it comes to grammar and spelling, but I don't fuss over it too much.

I'm not talking about things like using a colon instead of a semi-colon, starting a sentence with a preposition, or other things you only really care about when writing an essay.
Shouldnae that be "ending"? Cuz starting sentences with prepositions is all valid'n that, but endin' them is another matter.

*edit* Yeah, I know, am bit of an arsehole.

I don't really mind unless I can't understand what a post is saying. After all, my grammar isn't perfect. It does affect my opinion of the person making the post, though, even though I'd never correct anyone unless I was joking. It's their choice to type the way they do, and it's my choice as to whether or not I'll let it bother me.

Whenever I see someone unable to write a sentence without misspelling every single word I KNOW that person is either a child or a fucking douchebag and I fucking hate kids and douchebags.

I've learned to let chatspeak slide, but it's the increasingly common mistakes that bug the crap outta me... mainly using apostrophes to pluralize things. (see? things. Not thing's). That, and people who can't get "your" and "you're" straight.

This doesn't apply to the whole internet, just a certain terrible RP community but... stating present actions as "[character] would [action]" like "Bob would get up and get the door." This. For PRESENT actions.

Oh man. I used to RP way back in the day in Yahoo! chat. I don't know if anyone on the Escapist remembers "Ayenee", but that was simultaneously the best and worst Roleplaying community in the history of the internet. So many bad writers, so many hilarious characters, I loved it so much. Half of the chat screen was almost always taken up by people raging in OOC. Good times.

If you're having a discussion with someone and they are expressing themselves just fine, correcting them just makes you a giant asshole. Why would you be a "proud grammer nazi" anyway? That seems kinda silly.

Capitalization is the difference between "I had to help my uncle Jack off a horse" and "I had to help my uncle jack off a horse".

It bothers me when people make absolutely no effort to spell correctly. I don't mind a mistake here and there, but punctuation and capitalization are there for a reason.

If someone said "I had to help my uncle jack off a horse", you really wouldn't be able to tell what they meant?
...really now?

It bothers me a lot, I don't bother correcting any one, and my grammar is good, not perfect.

It was beaten into me by some friends from Ragnarok Online, believe it or not.

Sometimes I say "It's called punctuation; all the celebrities use it."
I think these two compliment each other perfectly.

Also...

I honestly don't care.

There's nothing wrong with short-handing things, it's been going on longer than the internet.

Over the top grammar nazis should think twice before coming out of their ivory towers and bothering us mere mortals.

As long as I can decipher it I don't care. I draw the line when people start horribly misspelling and replacing letters with symbols.

You're and your.
They're and their.
Oh, and when people completely get phrases and proverbs wrong, for example saying 'pacifically' instead of 'specifically'. Or 'to all intensive purposes' instead of 'all intents and purposes'.

I think that spelling and grammar are very important in making an argument, or even just a small point or joke. While I wouldn't go so far as to grammar Nazi people I won't read a post which isn't presented in a format I can understand it in. In my opinion if you were genuinely interested in hearing what other people had to say, you would present your case in such a way that other people could read it easily. This is what I strive to do in my posts, and I expect it of others.

Unless it comes to the split-infinitive rule, or ending sentences with preopsitions. I didn't actually learn grammar at high school, I picked it up as I went along, so those two rules I actually have to concentrate and be looking for in order to spot them, rather than noticing examples of bad punctuation or missing commas and full stops.
