Spectacular Spider-Man is the closest thing to a perfect Spider-Man cartoon I've ever seen.
It's funny, it has an amazingly catchy theme song and the art style is original and creative. But the main reason I love it is that they actually bothered to develop the characters over the course of the show to the point where I actually care about them.
Here's a perfect example.
I hate Venom. "Evil Twin" is the laziest antagonist hook ever made and I will never understand his appeal in most incarnations of the character.
That being said, Spectacular Spider-Man did an amazing job at developing the relationship between Eddie Brock and Peter Parker. Brock's rapidly deteriorating respect and friendship with Parker alongside the time spent exploring the Symbiote and it's relationship with Parker/Spider-Man means that when the time comes for Venom to actually make an appearance it actually has a degree of emotional gravity to it.
For a change Venom isn't just a scary alien monster with a hard on for killing. He's almost quite literally the physical manifestation of the consequences to Spider-Man's actions throughout the series and I absolutely love that.
