Yea..couldn't agree more with what you just said.
Secondly, list precisely how any of the Final Fantasy story lines has ever copied Star Wars. Precisely.
Yea I don't get that either, FF has NEVER ripped off star wars, but the contrary. They have made many subtle references and homages to star wars on many occasions. FF2 really stands out with all the "A new hope" homages they had in that.

In my opinion, Square Enix does seem to be going downhill, but that doesn't automatically mean FFXIII will suck. Besides, the main character has boobs, so that's a plus. Also, how is it "selling out" that FFXIII is also going onto the 360? Using that argument, Squaresoft sold out with FFVII by releasing it on the Playstation. Also, my favorite main character is Zidane. Don't shoot me.
Just anouther argument For The Fanboys at the end of the day, its a smart business decision taking into account that i no alot of people that transfered from the ps2 to the 360 due the PS3s slow start up, so its only right that it should appear on both platforms.
Though, if htat's the case why wouldn't they release Star Ocean/Infinite Undiscover/Whatever RPG is on the 360 on the PS3? I mean, the 360 is hardly doing what you would call "dominating" in the Japanese market which is where most of the series above get their appeal, yet they're releasing it for 360 and not for PS3.

But FF13 was pretty much guaranteed to be a system seller for the PS3 and everyone from everywhere was pissing their pants for it to finaly come out on PS3, yet it goes to 360 for basically no reason. Though I'm just assuming the PS3 version will be the "better" version mainly because they arn't going to start the 360 version until they're done with the PS3 version and the 360 one will only be sold in the Americas and Europe I believe.

But either way, Square is screwed because people want something different from them yet they want their "precious turn-based" games to stay that way (which I sortof quote "Yeah, they should do something like FFX only with better graphics and some updates" seriously, isn't that extremely ironic?>)

Seriously, was I the only one who liked X-2? Jeez.

Anyway. Final Fantasy is a wildly popular series-- you can hardly fault SE for "riding the coat tails of Square and [Enix]." It's not as if Square isn't making new titles. The Last Remnant, Soul Eater, Infinite Undiscovery...

Sure, they're a very prolific company, but "remake" isn't the only trick they know.
i liked x-2 *remembers playing it 4 times to get the ****ing mascot dressphare*

your looking at a company that is Japanese (duh) its just their style if you want to play something different play fable.the style of the games has changed a lot they have gone a bit more western in the design i don't think thats helped them really.they seem to be stuck in a rut but i think they are remaking games onto new machines because back then they didn't have the power of what we have now (ps3,360)

i used to play all of the final fantasy games now I'm just fed up at them...i just wish they could wow me again.

(and not make any movies..biggest disappointment for me didnt get to see a chocobo in any of them!! WTF....)

Square-Enix, as a big commercial company, is probably not all that original... but compared to what???

FF is actually changing A LOT per installment. Can't say the same about certain shooters or adventures...

Hahahahaha, implying that the Japanese could rip off Star Wars. WTF!?!?!?
There are quite a lot of Star Wars references in the Final Fantasy series. From recurring characters called Biggs and Wedge (sometimes Piett as well) Final Fantasy IV is the one with the most direct references though. Quite a few key scenes (Tellah's death) and relationships in (No, Cecil, I am your fa.. brother), and the whole visual design of Golbez make more than a mild nod in the direction of Far Far Away.

These are not accidental. Someone on the design staff really likes Star Wars.

How about creating something that doesn't take place in a fantasy world with guys that look like girls?
Male characters in JRPGs look like they're in danger of spontaneously forming a boy band for the same reason Female characters in all games everywhere make plaboy models green with envy. Fanservice. The squealing fangirls like it that way. Why do you think Sephiroth didn't wear a shirt. Ever.

Probably already mentioned but XII played itself...

seriously... it was like watching someone else play the game
Most JRPGs are like that. The only difference is that in FFXII you don't have to hold down X to win against trash mobs. You can't rely on the gambit system for elite mobs or bosses, you'll just get creamed.

Final Fantasy Tactics and FFTAdvance are not much like other FF games. They have a similar style, visually and with that Japanese-storytelling fashion, but without all the yawn-inducing melodrama, overlong cutscenes and interminable conversations that say nothing (or I should say less interminable conversations). And as for the content - well, there is actual gameplay involved, so right off the bat it's not like a traditional Final Fantasy game at all.

Yeah, they're nods to the SW film. And throughout the whole series of games. People implying FF12 is spot on the same as SW was what made me laugh out loud.

That's only part of it. JRPGs are made in Japan and by Japanese people. In Japan, young Japanese males from the ages of 13-30 in general look very feminine, so the young Japanese characters in Japanese video games will look equally feminine. It's a very simple thing, but people just can't seem to connect that.

I loved the Kingdom Hearts games, so I can't really be too hard on them. But I really don't care for the FF stuff and whatnot. I know they're vaugely tied together and all, but still.

I think they're milking the Final Fantasy cow a little too much. Theres a reason its called FINAL Fantasy.
They called it "Final Fantasy" because it was Square's/Enix's/Whatevertheywerecalledbackthen's last chance to produce a successful game, so this was basically their final fantasy.

There's your reason ;P

And now it's gaming's longest-running occurrence of irony. :D

You know, I honestly think that you all wouldn't be giving S-E this much flak if they really DID just rehash their "lone successful title" over and over again. Then instead of pointing fingers, we'd all be talking about how our thirteen billionth showdown against Chaos is just so much more badass this time around than last time, as we delve into elemental dungeons waiting to finally get the bloody Hookshot. And we'd be none the wiser.

I really like Square-Enix, and I like the Final Fantasy games. The only ones I didn't like were Dirge of Cerberus and FFXI. I really enjoyed the rest. Yeah, they do tend to remake things, but some of these turn out great, and it is convenient to have the older games available for the newer systems.

Squeenix have 13 traditional FF games? ... I thought they only had 6, and kept re-releasing FF 6 over and over again .... (XI is possibly the only innovation thus far :p)

SE hasn't really been good to me over the past few years. Even though they make the 'Final Fantasy' series, the way the main games are handled...I don't like them anymore. Yeah the last one I liked was 9, still under squaresoft. I fell put with them when they were still Squaresoft in fact...

However I still the the Crystal Chronicles games. Funny way that works. But the rest of their RPGs...don't really appeal to me anymore.
