Don't s'pose anyone knows enough about dual-monitor use? I'm wondering if having two monitors running off my 9800GTX can be arranged vertically stacked instead of horizontal. Does XP Home or Pro allow this?

Yeah, it does. I believe that XP (pro anyway) supports up to 64 screens, though I'm not sure what sort of graphics card you'd need to run it. And yes, you can stack them any old way you like - in the display properties you can basically drag the displays around to match the monitors physical location.

Back on topic - widescreen laptop here, but I tend to use so many apps at once I think I'm going to have to get a secondary screen because I need the real-estate. Am using linux most of the time for work stuff and even though I have 6 desktops and can easily swap between them using the desktop cube I would really like to be able to see everything that I'm running at once.

I have no idea why those dudes in the Matrix had all those green screensavers running all the time - I'd deffo use a set up like that more wisely..

I upgraded to a widescreen (16:10 1650x1050 20") last year... I never loved a monitor before, I find the workspace so much less constricting and it's better for games/movies obviously. Not had any real problems with things not liking the aspect ratios - one or two old games that needed me to alter them to a custom resolution but nothing annoying.

This post basically sums up what I would otherwise say, except my monitor has a button to switch to 4:3 ratio when viewing stuff like old games etc. Sune-ku, I suggest you check and make sure yours doesnt.

Standard. In fact, I don't even use a flat screen. I dislike LCD for their inability to display low resolutions.
