I recently been replaying Star Ocean: Till the end of Time, and been really enjoying it and seeing how I haven't seen a Star Ocean thread in ages thought I would make one.

What was your favorite Star Ocean game, what ones have you played/read/or watched (there is a Manga of the first three games and an anime of the 2nd,) and what is your favorite element of the universe?

Personally my favorite is Till the End of Time if only for the fact that it is the only one I have played. Been meaning to get either First Departure or Second Story as they got remakes on the psp or get Last Hope International as I heard the japanese voices make the story better as the characters aren't as annoying.

I have watched the Star Ocean EX which I blieve is Second Story's anime.

What I like a lot about Star Ocean is how detailed the whole universe is, if you read the codex (which idk if it is in the previous games but most likely) there is a crap load of information and a lot of it is quite interesting.

So once more: What was your favorite Star Ocean game, what ones have you played/read/or watched (there is a Manga of the first three games and an anime of the 2nd,) and what is your favorite element of the universe?

The Second Story was the only one I ever played, so My vote goes to that one, god what a mess that was, never did finish it.

Watching an LP of the... third one, I think. The one with Fayt.
So far, it seems pretty damn generic. Not really my thing.

The second story was really good (one of my favourite JRPG's), the third one was average, but had a lot of good things going for it, and the forth one was alright if you could get pass the ham fisted storyline, and cheesy voice acting.

I borrowed Star Ocean till the end of time or what have you, and it turned into: sidekick, turn sidekick, turn, sidekick, turn, sidekick, turn, how many more of these do I have to do to get the extra costumes? Sidekick, turn.

I wound up getting more tropies or medals or whatever than my friend who had beaten the game had gotten by the second planet!

Yeah, there's a reason I stay away from certain types of games.

I've only played Till the End of Time.

At the time I bought it, it was one my favourite games ever, I put more than 100 hours into the game (which was a bloody lot pre-online multiplayer)

Tried to play it a few years ago and I just couldn't get into it. I'll still retain fond memories though.

Only played The Last Hope and it was quite good, enough for me to play it through a second time anyway.

Love the 2nd and still list it as not only one of my favourite RPGs of all time, but as my favourite RPG of that generation (yes, above FFVII). The overall story wasn't spectacular but the characters were brilliant, the gameplay was rock solid and challenging, and the relationship system (and how it impacted so many parts of the game) was near perfect.

I hated 3, mainly because it's twist pretty much negated the world that I had loved in SO2. As a game it wasn't bad at all, but I just can't look past it because of the story.

4 was pretty good but just didn't connect with me in the end. I actually got probably within a few hours of the end but got distracted by another game I can't even recall and never did finish it. I really did enjoy some of the characters though, particularly the two that most people seemed to find the most annoying. Heh

Another one who has only played A Last Hope, so I can't really vote. Loved the game, though it could become a little repetitive, so I haven't finished it yet. I got to Nox Obscuris. Is that far? I have no idea, though it looked like it went towards some climax.

I've played Second Story and Till the End of Time.

Second Story is amazing and I have very fond childhood memories of playing that the first time. Should go through it again as I never got any of the secret characters.

Till the End of Time is probably the most embarrassing game in my collection, it was just horrible to play and the story, what I remember of it, was weak. So yeah going to have to go with Second Story for this poll.

None of the them. Of the Star Ocean series I've only played/endured The last hope and I'm not picking up another Star Ocean game again before they are the very last RPGs left on this earth that I have not played. That is never.
I know that is wrong the judge the whole series based on one game in it but... no. Last hope was just too awful.

I've played them all except the second one myself. I do remember being a little annoyed early on in 'Till The End Of Time when Fayt (I think it was him anyway) kept going on about Star Ocean's equivalent to the Prime Directive.

Last Hope was broken as fuck once you got Myuri? in your party
my fave would be SO2 Reena, the dude with the 2 dragons on his back, Dias, and the magic lady from the third town owned EVERYTHING

Never really played a Star Ocean game. I have the Last Hope, but I'm only a couple hours in. Seems all right, but around the time I bought it, something else came out (don't remember what), that took up all my gaming time, and I just haven't gone back to it. I've been meaning to go back and play it through, though, or to try another Star Ocean games, since I hear they're fairly good JRPGs, and I have something of a soft spot for that particular genre.

Last Hope had the best battle system. The story in each one of them is very cliche, but gameplay wise Last Hope still stands as my favourite JRPG.

Actually without the third game's plot twist there was a gaping hole in the whole universe.

OPA's - unexplained items of unknown origin but massively powerful.

and Welch Vineyard, she is in all of the games and is the same person despite many years differences. Only reason she could be the same age at all times is if she wasn't from the demension but one that time didn't work the same.

I've played Till the end of Time which was fine until the big spoiler towards the end and then I was all; W.T.F?!
And played The Last Hope which was ok, never finished it as I was playing my ex's copy. Best thing about that was Edge Maverick. The most ridiculously named main character ever. I could help laughing every time he mentioned his full name.
I went for TTEOT though as I actually finished it despite TLH having better combat.

My first star ocean game (and still my favorite) was the second story. Years later I would get to try the original one which was ok but I dont think i ever beat it (since the friend I borrowed it from moved away). Then there was the last hope...I think that was the one. The one with Fayt as the main character which is probably my second favorite. I spent weeks getting battle trophies in that game, especially with the new game+ mode

I dont recall playing the latest one though and I dont really know why. I might have to see if I can find a cheap copy of it and give it a look
