My School has a sci-fi club that meets every wednesday and today they showed the star wars Christmas (life-day) special which the teacher in charge recorded on VHS. I personally thought it was awful and made no sense due to the numerous weird cuts to skit-like things and the overall lack of plot development but I was wondering if anyone else had seen it and if you have, what do you think of it.

Edit: Just thought I would give a little background on the movie. George Lucas gave the rights to make a holiday special to NBC in 1979 as well as the ability to use all his characters and ideas. After it aired Lucas bought back the rights and all the tapes and then he destroyed them because it was awful. Therefore the only way to watch the Movie is to find a VHS tape of its only broadcast. But why would you want to?

I haven't had the pleasure of seeing it personally, but I've read the I-Mockery write up [http://www.i-mockery.com/minimocks/starwars-holiday/] several times. It looks interesting, to say the very least. Awful in the same way that a terrible car accident is; You know it's painful to look at and you know you shouldn't be staring, but you really just can't help yourself.

I never want to. It is infamous for its badness. The Nostalgia Critic will review it next week and for the past two he's tried to deny its existence only to be laughed at by Yoda. I'm scared of it and NC is the only way I will watch it so at least I can laugh.

Geroge Lucas personally denies such a movie exists, thats how bad it is.

also, if you havent seen it, a certain critic [http://www.thatguywiththeglasses.com/] will be reviewing the movie come this saturday.

but yea, this pretty much sums it up:

George also wants to personally hunt down every VHS tape of it and destroy them all, it is an abomination

It was kind of meant to be stupid, I think. I liked it only because it was stupid.
No it was real. They didn't make it stupid on purpose just to be cheeky. They were just trying to ride the movies success and tried something for the holiday season to milk more money from the new franchise.

It failed because the people who conceptualised this holiday special didn't realise variety shows only work on source material designed for stage or comedy. Not special effects laiden Sci-Fi movies. It's why other variety shows do not include as a theme: Aliens, The Terminator, Battalstar Galactica, Titanic, Twister, Jurassic Park, etc.

Instead it is the Brady Bunch, Carol Burnett, Saturday Night Live, Mad TV, etc. All variety shows based on comedy or stage production entertainment.

SWCS was not intentionally stupid. They F****D UP!

Yeah, they literally tried to bury the problem. I liked it because it gave me a lot of laughs laden with "What the f*cks!" I almost choked to death on my gum when I first saw it because I was laughing so hard.

I know of the beast's existence, and I've seen a clip. But I only know of the horror second hand.

Watching carrie fisher trying to dance and sing while strung out on cocaine is hilarious. Goddamn I love the holiday special, it's so terrible it knocked Plan 9 from Outer Space off the top of my favourite shit movies list.

There is a Rifftrax version floating around out there on Teh Internets. It makes it somewhat bearable and funny. But not even Mike Nelson can overpower the awfulness that is Itchy and Lumpy.
