Poll: Star Wars Collection - 2013 66% off on steam. Worth it for a non star wars fan?

Good evening,

Once again I find myself making a thread asking for advice on games.

The Star Wars 2013 collection on on sale right now on steam for 66% off. Normally my eyes just glide right on by anything star wars related as i never really enjoyed the series and always found the level of praise the series got surprising (Not trying to start a thing here, i just didn't like the films). But as they are on offer and i have along weekend with no plans i was wondering if any of the SW games on steam stand up on their own without any real interest in the films or the universe as i understand it? I play pretty much everything that is not competitive multiplayer so genre is not a barrier necessarily, as long as the game is good.

Eh. A lot of those games are pretty bad, and the ones that aren't are pretty old.

I'm not even sure it's worth it for a Star Wars fan.

Personally I'd give the bundle a miss, but some of the individual games are well worth picking up if you missed them the first time around. I'm a big fan of Kotor 1&2 in particular, Battlefront is good particularly with others (but I'm not sure what the online community for it is like nowadays).

Only because most Star Wars fans would likely already own KotOR, KotOR II, Republic Commando, Battlefront II, and the Dark Forces games.

Well, and Dark Forces 2/the KotOR games take a bit of fiddling around to get running nicely on modern systems, but that's beside the point.

OT: What's your view on Sci-Fi, OP? Dark Forces and Dark Forces 2 are really dated, but pretty solid action games in my opinion, Jedi Knight II and Jedi Academy capture the feeling of a not-entirely-overpowered Jedi really well and have some fun lightsaber mechanics that aren't simply hack&slash like The Force Unleashed. Battlefront II is a pretty good... well, it functions like a grand deathmatch multi-player shooter in a way. Republic Commando is an excellent little tactical FPS, even if it is a bit simpler than some people might like. And Knight of the Old Republic you likely would know all about if you're at all in touch with the gaming community. If not, they're D&D-styled RPGs in the Star Wars universe that are likely the only games you'll ever find almost completely removed from the Star Wars films - And even they still use some of the same planets and most of the same archetypes.

Battlefront II and Republic Commando are pretty heavily reminiscent of the films, Knights of the Old Republic and its sequel mostly stand alone, and the Dark Forces trilogy (DF, DF2, Jedi Knight II) stars the Chuck Norris of the Star Wars universe, but aside from cameos of Luke Skywalker and all the talk about Jedi, Sith, the Dark Side, and lightsabers you could be forgiven for not thinking they're actually Star Wars games at all.

But outside of Knights, depending on the reason you've got no interest in Star Wars there likely won't really be anything that keeps your attention. And if you're not into CRPGs, you may not care for KotOR either. Speaking from personal experience I can enjoy it despite not liking any of the actual D&D-based video games, but I don't really know if part of that is because of the Sci-Fi aesthetic or not.
