I'm a star wars fan so when I heard all those years ago that a Star Wars MMO was in the works I squealed with so much excitement! Now that it's inching closer to its release date most people are saying "Don't get so excited its just WoW with lightsabers" or "This game will flop so hard because they took WoW and put it in space!". Now I played my fair share of WoW, got to the highest level raided, PVP, and ran dungeons but I only started by the time Wotlk was fading away into cataclysm, by that time most people were long time subscribers and didn't want anything to do with me the "noob" if you will. i'm a huge supporter of Tor: A. Because i'm a star wars fan
B.I love the way the game is shaping up and C. Its a clean slate for me to finally learn the ropes as a they progress rather than hastily catching up with them.

I want to know what the escapist thinks of Tor and WoW all posts are fine just try not to start a flame war

Well, I've never been a big fan of the WoW model. And basically what I've heard about the game is as follows: if you're fine with the way MMOs are currently, you'll like TOR. If you're not, you probably won't.

However, I'm planning on playing it as a single-player game (soloing with my companions, and also with my SO when they're online), which basically amounts to KOTOR 3-8 or 9 or whatever the number was, only in a living world.

I don't know if I'll be in it for the longterm, but I'm planning on at least playing through the Smuggler and Imperial Agent storylines.

I enjoyed the WoW model for several years- only, it never felt like I was a demon summoning warlock seeking to fight fire with fire. It felt like I was a player at my desk, pressing keys to try and make the biggest numbers I could appear on the screen while hoping that it was enough to satisfy my party members.

The story aspect, I think, will completely change that in ToR. Or at least, I'm hoping it will. The immersion is what will set it apart.

I love WoW, I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE KotoR and star wars, so the "insults" people fling at ToR just make me more excited, not that I think their insults are unfounded, I can totally see why people wouldn't like it, but for me, it is right up my alley

I'll play it when it goes free to play. Otherwise I'm not interested. I wanted KOTOR 3. I have a life so MMOs with montly subscriptions are are total rip off for me.

Ah the good ol' "I have a life" argument. Hilarious every time.
I'm up for TOR, also looking forward to guild wars 2 though.

You know what will carry SWTOR, the story, that's it, that's all it need to keep me interested. 8 classes with unique storylines that over-arch and is split in 3 segments with each segment taking the length of the original kotor to finish. That is what has me excited, I don't care that it is hot-key based, I care about the story and I am going to approach this game as a single player game first and a multiplayer experience second.

For such a star wars fan and you heard there was a star wars mmo in the works...
im taking it you never heard of SWG star wars galaxies? If not dont worry, it ends 5 days before tor.

by the way. Everyone relates MMOS to WoW, but real people relate WoW to Everquest, and Old Schoolers refer them both to Pen and Paper.
Well sir you are correct I didn't know about Galaxies until I heard about TOR.

"I have a life OK! I drink and party with WOMEN! REAL WOMEN! Go play some dumb star wars game little kid, I kill my liver and dick EVERY NIGHT LIKE A MAN! Now thats a life."

*rolls eyes* yeeeeeeeeep.

So every game thats an mmo is WoW now? I raided in Warcraft, lemme tell you, this mmo is not like WoW. All mmos stand out on their own merits. Putting WoW in space? No, its putting Kotor multiplayer.

Ah, hyper-masculine dickbrains always make me laugh.

If the Old Republic is Wow with lightsabers I would buy it on release. But, I haven't seen enough to think it is. And, from what I've seen it doesn't "feel" like WoW. Which is bad, because WoW had the best "feel" an MMORPG ever had.

I haven't played WoW for a while so I have really high hopes for The Old Republic.

I've played The Old Republic at Gamescom back in August and let me tell you, it makes WoW's combat system seem boring. Taking on groups of three or four enemies is child's play here! They got their idea of "heroic combat" down pat. And the Mass Effect styled storytelling just drags you in and keeps you engaged.

I think I will play but not for the mmo aspect (I never really got into that) because if old republic has half good a story of the kotors I dont care how bad the combat is

If you liked WoW, and if you ever played/liked KotOR, you'll love SWTOR.

Plain and simple.

It's why I'm getting it.

Even though, graphically, the game looks worse than shit, everything else looks like it'll make up for it.

Eh, maybe. Honestly, TOR doesn't interest me too much. I'd much rather just have a KOTOR 3 personally, but that's just me. Don't think I could really justify paying $15 a month on top of $50 for it right off the bat.
