I would go for SC2 because it got a nice editor with it.
Doesn't hold any real weight considering Reach also has an editing mode. I'll admit Starcraft 2's editor is superior (you can make entire games with it, as well as FPS's), but Forge mode isn't too shabby itself. Not only that, but they're meant to accomplish different tasks. Forge mode is for screwing around with your friends, or making the next big multiplayer mode. While Galaxy Editor is for creating custom games, or new and more insteresting maps to challenge your friends.

Besides, as I said before his system would have trouble handling SC2, not only that but he might not even care for the editor, as the majority of people don't have an interest in creating games, and just want to play.

Starcraft 2 (specifically the Zerg version), no question about it - but then again, Halo never warmed to me.
I've never actually played the first starcraft but I fell in love with Halo 3 when my brother got a free copy with his Xbox bundle. It was all I played last summer.
What!? Heathen! Blasphemer! Argh! Not having played Starcraft is like... not having played Diablo or any of the early Warcraft games!

I died a little inside.
Prepare for a shocker: the only Blizzard game I've ever played is World of Warcraft...and I don't even play that anymore. I know a bit about the setting of the Starcraft universe (essentially "Warhammer 40,000 Lite"), but that's about it.

Please don't hate me...

As such, I honestly cannot give an opinion on how good (or bad) Starcraft II really is. But hey, here's an alternative:

If you simply MUST have a kick-ass sci-fi RTS, but your computer can't handle SC2, how about tracking down a copy of Dawn of War? Just because the graphics are dated now doesn't mean it's a bad game. You'd still get plenty of Space Marine action that way to boot (and these are THE Space Marines, hence the capitalization).

I myself am eagerly awaiting Reach...though most of that is for the revamped Firefight mode and the fact that they're actually incorporating elements from the books this time around.

Never played any of those either.

Reach. You can't run Team Fortress 2. You most likely won't be able to run Starcraft 2.
I can run TF2 but if I set it to anything higher than low graphics mys fps takes a nosedive.

I would say go get SC2, mostly because it's out right now, and it shouldn't be that hard to scrounge up $65 over the next 2.5 weeks.

Well actually a little update to this story I just found out about an hour ago. My Grandma died last week at the age of 89 (Bless her) after spending roughly six months in a home. I wasn't exactly close to her but I was still with her in her last few weeks with my Older Brother and Younger Sister. Today the will was read and much to my surprise she left me $16,000. I'm getting both...and going to college. Thread over.

Well, you could play Reach, or you could play any of the other recent Halo games seeing that they're pretty much the same thing.

However, if you insist on restricting yourself to those two games then it depends on your tastes. If you adore the FPS "shoot the bad aliens in the face" approach, then get Reach. If you enjoy a bit more intellectual approach, go Starcraft.

I have a vendetta against starcraft.

So get Reach, please.
You have piquited my interest. Care to elaborate?
Well, I live on the eastern coast of Australia.

Whenever I went to play online, the only other people would be (mostly) from east asia.

So... so much zerg rush...

That is a tough one. They will be/are both great games that will be played for years to come. I don't think it is a matter of which one, more like which one should you buy first. From what you have told me I would get Halo Reach first because you won't have to worry about performance issues and will probably enjoy it more right out of the gate.

You should definitely get SC2 some time though.
