i always end up by choosing the cutest, but since i found it difficult to catch fire-type pokemon i guess it is smart to start with one. besides i think the first gymnasiums were bug or grass type... right? except brock. and misty. i dont really remember any other :p

Usually fire since Charmander was a starter in Red/Blue but in Pearl I chose the water type since I had a Charmander bred with a Ditto and brought a new Charmander over via the GBA transfer.

If I had to pick just an element, I'd say fire.

Individual pokemon, I'd usually pick Charmander in generation one, but Totodile in gen. two.

This.

Man.. that monkey just looks so bloody stupid..! @_@
Was the last fire type really any better?

A fighting flaming chicken........it sounds like a bad joke.
Oh, true.. Forgot about that bugger. I was just thinking of Charmander and Cyndaquil. Grawr. Why don't we just forget the 3rd and 4th generations like they were a bad dream? :D

Now don't get me wrong, I believe Poke'mon should not be and anyone who plays it seriously deserves to be bludgeoned to death with their own junk, but still there is a recurring argument between the people in my school who actually like that stuff so with the release of platinum I thought it would be appropriate; What is your choice of starting poke'mon?
The original Pokemon games and probably Fire Red are awesome, and will always be awesome. The more Pokemon and stupid bullshit filler crap they added to the games, the worse they got.

But I'd play that original game a thousand times over. Red and Blue are amazing. I think I want to play them now.

I'd always pick fire. Well not always in red I picked the turtle for the sheer hell of it. But now I'm required to pick fire, for 2 main reasons. 1. I like fire. 2. there is only 33 fire types out of the 492 breeds of Pokemon. 12 for the starters, and 3-4 legends. So thats basically 18 or so breeds of fire Pokemon you can catch.

Honestly the only Pokemon I really like from the 4th generation is Croagunk.

3rd generation is okay. Still some creativity there and not all the Pokemon are just evolutions or prevolutions of existing Pokemon.

Charmander was always "hard mode" since you faced rock and water gyms first.
Bulbasaur was easy street because you were the counter to the first two gyms and by the 3rd you already had a decent collection of pokemon going on.

Squirtle was awesome lol

Charmander never seemed fair to me. The first gym leader trumps you with type advantage and there are no Pokemon you can catch prior to facing him that can exploit his type weakness.

My little brother couldn't beat Brock. I lent him a Doduo (really) to help him win.

Squirtle for the win! Besides, he evolves in BLASTOISE who is seriously the best of the three evolved forms. Charizard is OK, but he's a dragon and that's cliche.
