My personal favorite is steampunk because it looks more appealing and makes sense, you can just look at one of the pipes and follow it in all sorts of intricate patterns. Today I watched the old Doctor Who for the first time in a while and I must say now in the mindset of this forum it's a magnificent example of what cyberpunk can be. If your wondering it's the episode where a medical ship full of nanobots gets lost in time and turns up in WW2 Britain in a bombed region, where it finds the dead body of a traumatized 4 year old boy wearing a gas mask looking for it's mommy, and brings him back to life with some supernatural powers. Then the nanobots, which had never seen a human before, assumed all humans were like the little boy and began turning everyone around the boy into near copies of him. Yet other than sonic stuff, space ships, and time travel it's all pretty normal, it does a good job of focusing on the moral aspect of cyberpunk, and the sonic guns feel like they're done right.

Still I love steampunk something great, although it's close cousins like dieselpunk and early early electric punk stuff, like if edison was a little more brilliant in his time. Also some of that stuff blends really well with magic and such. Cyberpunk can be amazing if done right, but something about steampunk just feels so natural and escapable to a time of ambition and moving forward with prosperity in mind, not sitting in a lab arguing with your subordinate arguing over the morality of the new weapon you've created.
