i'm definitely for it. some religions say it's wrong, but then again, they say a lot of things that don't make sense.

Very Pro. Entirely untapped branch of scientific research with yet unknown utilitarian tangents, still in "infancy" (pardon pun)*. Tremendous potential.

* Yes, I know it's actually embryonic.

Pro. Very Pro. Even if it uses fetuses (which it doesn't have to).

I noticed that there a 2 no votes. Yet the only posts are "yes".

COME OUT AND POST YOU COWARDS! (because I would be interested to hear your opinion and engage in a polite conversation)

Wow, it's overwhelmingly on the "pro" side. I was expecting a little more controversy, honestly.

I am totally up for any and all forms of stem cell research. The more of this research we are able to do the better.

I'm actually against it. Not because of some religious "fetuses are people" belief, but because it can result in the "cure for death". If this happens, the natural renewal of the population stops, and society has to start considering when people are not allowed to live anymore.

Science is like a rose garden. It can never be too large and too beautiful. But as gardeners (I'm a geneticist) we must be careful because some seed lead to destruction (the nuclear bomb) while even the most iridescent blooms can be the most dangerous (coal power).

Pro. Pretty much as everyone else has said, the ends justify the means on this one. Despite what the religious primitivists will tell you. Besides:

The nay-sayers seem to think that it involves creating babies and putting them in blenders. While it may be true we discovered foetal stem cells first, its not like thats the only source.
While not discounting the valid arguments against it, the majority of detractors seem fundamentally against it purely through lack of education on the subject.

100% pro.
I think it is an area of reseasrch that shows great potential and I have yet to hear of a rational objection to it.

I am pro but i dont think people realize that 14 days after conception you can't harvest the stem cells. i actually did a research paper on this and most people think that if youre getting an abortion then you can just take the cells out with it but its not like that at all. You have to plan this you can just have it happen by chance.

Pro, one day they'll be able to use steam cell research in combination with parts from my body to help cure my autistic little sister.

It's not all that far off, apparently, though it also raises the question of should she be 'cured' - as she's awesome as she is...

Ah, some tough questions are lined up for the future, eh?

Seeing as how we can get stem cells from pretty much anywhere on the human body, I think any major argument against it falls flat.

i was orginally against stem cell reasearch because it used fetuses, but now that they finding ways to use it without fetuses (such as fat cells and skin cell ect.) i'm totally for it.

im not a extreme conservative or anything, fetus use as such just creeps me the fuck out.
It never used fetuses. At one point I think zygotes were used. Those are kinda like fetuses but way way earlier, at the point where its literally just a couple of cells. You'd kill more cells by punching somebody in the arm. Completely mindless and absolutely nothing like a human being.
The zygotes used were all ones produced as a bi-product of in-vitro fertilisation, so they were going to be incinerated otherwise.

Either way its kinda win win if you ask me. Unless you believe that a tiny ball of cells has a soul which is kinda like believing a sperm has a soul. Uhm... *begins singing 'every sperm is sacred' from monty python*

As long as it's nothing to do with dead babies, or creating dead babies to do it then I'm pro. I see no reason to be against it.

But Im not voting at all due to there being a condition (regardless of whether or not that condition is fulfilled by stem cell research).

Forseeable. That word sticks out the most in this statement. I feel that the implementation of stem cells should be highly regulated with more than adequate foresight, because something as powerful as stem cells have the potential to seriously transform the way people interact with and exist in this world.
