My country (Norway) is the greatest nation on earth!

We had the Vikings, now we have a shitload of oil and natural gas.
We have stunning nature, and we take care of it.

Most of our electricity comes from hydro-powerplants.

We are socialist too.

What's there not to love?

It may not be perfect, but then again, nothing ever is.

Greatest nation on earth?
Yes, it is indeed.

I fear we shall have to disagree.

Texas born and raised!

Gun owning, God fearing, cowboy boot/hat wearing gamer. Yep, I pretty much love everything about this state. We have great food, great people, gorgeous women, relaxed gun laws, plus an amazing aerospace and Department of Defense private sectors. American Airlines is based in Texas. Real estate always does better in Texas as compared to the other 49 lesser states.

We're home to 6th Street, Big Tex, Big Bend, the Alamo and Ross Perot. The man who single handedly fronted a jail break out of Iran for some of his employees that were trapped there.

Willie Nelson owns a truck stop in Texas.

The Czech Stop is in Texas, and has the best Koloche's in the world. (Not even joking.)

Shiner Bock comes from Shiner, Texas.

Admiral Chester Nimitz was Texas born and raised.

Texas Tech, UT, A&M... TWU, UNT, SMU, Austin College...

I can go on all day.

I do have a question though. I have heard that if you went to another country and you said you were from America you would get the typical cold shoulder response. However, if you said you were Texas the reaction is completely different and people are really friendly towards you. Is this true?
No.. We dont like America, regardless of what state you come from...

OT: Since im really not into the differences, i would say that the Texan stereotype is really the generel american stereotype...
An gun loving, Christ worshipping, intolerant, war advocating nutjob...

But hey, its just stereotypes... And every country has its stereotypes within its different regions..
Now i just want to know what the danish stereotype is...

Four "its the best" choices and one "it sucks", Thats a big ego right there. I've never been to Texas so I can't much much of an opinion other then the fact they are third in the country for bragging about their states, behind California and New York.

Yeah, I'm an adopted son of Texas. I've often claimed that I was a Texan born in California but it took me awhile to get Home. I'd have to say that the things I don't like are Rick Perry, the weather here in Houston(if you don't like it you can literally walk down the street for it to change), and the traffic. There's other things but those are the big ones. I love a lot about Texas, more than I can put into words. I know its not perfect but its my home and I love it.

I imagine abunch of people dressed like cowboys talking in overly exaggerated souther drawls about how much they hate mexicans, democrats, commies and anti 2nd ammendment groups, that praise anything related even remotely to a love of God, America, Guns and alcohol.....but being how a friend of mine is from Texas I know this to obviously be bullshit....

As for North Carolina.........damn I've got nothing except lots of lighthouses and people bragging about how the first flight happened here......nothing specific about the people though

I'm from Ireland, and media would have me believe Texas is filled with drawling conservative cowboy wannabes.
Everyone has their own ranch and gun. The mentally challenged are put to death. Every other dude has a horse who he is disturbingly close to.

I know none of this is true, though. Texas is just a place, like any other. Filled with a whole variety of assholes.
Your media talks about us specifically? I'm so flattered! We too, occasionally mention Ireland. Also, somehow editing became quoting myself and made a new post. 0_o?
Ha. Don't I fucking know it.
We are even more poorly represented than you guys. AND nobody fucking gets the accent right.

Anyway, I suppose our media, specifically, doesn't mention you guys. Most of the shows over here are English or American, just like any other country.
The odd irish show will be too focused on making Ireland specific in-jokes to mention anywhere else.
Hehe yeah I've got a few friends from Scottland but I don't think I've ever even spoken over chat to anyone from Ireland. I don't think we ever really have much in the way of shows or anything that much deals with Ireland. But to be fair, we don't have anything to mention about Greenland or Iceland either, lol.

I'm from Canada. When I think of Texas, I think of cowboys, guns and love for the death penalty. This is probably horribly misinformed, but that's what happens when you live across the continent.

What do I think people think of Canada? We live in igloos and guzzle maple syrup. Also horribly misinformed.
That makes Texas sound awesome to an extent. I think of Canada as America but colder and one part speaks french(Oh wait, New Orleans speaks french). I have been to parts of Canada and really didn't see a difference in the culture or architecture from America.
Thats because we ARE awesome :p

I believe we would get along quite well my friend :). Here, have some E-BBQ!

Also, there should be a Texan group here. I've never actually checked to see if there is or not.

I live in Texas. I like it. I guess I wouldn't like it half as much though if I didn't love hot weather. I mean, it's nearly Christmas, but it's hot enough to go outside in tanks and shorts.

People are also generally a lot more friendly around here too. Car stalled on the road? You won't have to wait 10 minutes before someone stops and tries to help.

Worst thing about Texas is the number of fatties. I never noticed we had that many until I went out of state and noticed the fat-to-skinny ratio over there was considerably smaller.

i was born in texas and have lived there pretty much all my life, but the stereotypical image of texans really isn't accurate. sure you got the gun nuts, but it's really not as bad as everyone says it is. just don't go to east texas (aka the part of texas we dare not talk about due to extreme redneckness)

I live in Canada.

I did not know Texas is a state or even a place. I always thought Texas is the standard unit of measurement for asteroid size.

and we've elvolved! We hold our igloos together with melted-then-frozen polar bear fat! Inovationz for th' win eh?

Yeah, I'm from Montreal in Canada. It's always great when you have a tourist walk up to you and say (with a little shock and awe) "'Scuse ME Ser? Where might I be finding all them igloos I heards so much 'bout?"

I think the best way of dealing it is to just stare at them fro about 5 seconds before exploding into unbridled laughter
Or when you are stopped because a tourist wants to see your "monopoly money".
That happened to me in Florida, I was wearing a Quebec hat to make people think I only spoke french. (In reality my french is quite rusty, also Quebec is my second favourite province)

Oklahoma is north Texas? I take that offensively good sir, we have our fair share of stereotypes as well.

Honestly, since i actually live right next to it, i would know that there isnt a lot of that [in the suburban and metropolitan areas anyway]. We actually dont give a flying shit about country around here. Yes we are better than that, WE care about the important stuff like which hip hop singer got pregnant at a strip club, or which rap singer sexually assaulted a prostitute. Yes were better than that :p

Sorry, that's the stereotype.

I'm sure that your average Texan is no different to anyone else in the world, but that's the narrow view.
Any Texan that tain't goin' ta bed wit' h's teyn-gallon hat wit' h's leather spurr'd boots ain't no Texan I know, yup yup. H's one mighty fine lookin' ranger, but he be all talk n' no cattle. Better paint yer butt white and run like n' antelope, 'cause my boot's commin' for ya stereotypin' hicks![/Texan_stereotype]

I have yet to meet any Texan that has fulfilled the stereotype. As far as I can tell, those stereotypes only really exist in the country-side, and seeing as how I've never really been to the country-side, I have yet to meet any of the real Texan-specific sterotypes, and the ones I do are just general stereotypes. I mean, really, the crazy Christian fundamentalist, the homo-bashing homophobe, they're all universal.

The 6-shooter revolver, however, is ours. Dun take dat 'way from us.

Crazy h'ppies.

I'm from Massachusetts, and I would definitely argue that it is the best state in the United States.

For me, the stereotypical Texan is republican, conservative, watches only Fox news, homophobic, nationalist, redneck... the list goes on. As you can probably tell, I don't have the highest opinion of Texas.

If I got that in Montreal, I'd probably go something like "I am sorry 'sieur, but I do not know of deez igloo 'ou speak of, mais you may have a beet of our brie if you'd like."
Living in Toronto, I actually got the opportunity to troll a tourist. They were wondering where the hockey hall of fame was, so I put on the ridiculous Canadian accent and tried to get a conversation going with them. 'twas funny.

And what I think of Texas, Celtic Kerr kinda summed it up there. I'll guess that not all Texans are actually like that, and I really like the idea of Texas as almost a separate nation with a cool and separate culture, but it gets hidden behind the general feeling of American super-nationalism pro-second amendment Jesus-loving foreigner-hating culture. Get past that for the entire country (it's a problem outside of Texas,) and I'd actually love Texas. It seems like a cool place with a cool climate and cool culture.

I too call Texas home. Just like most places there's things that I both like and hate about this state but I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. While we get lumped in the stereotypical southern types Texas is actually very welcoming of people and we are one of the most advanced states in terms of technology. Yes, we do like our guns, bbq, and republicans but you can easily get along with anyone down here.....just don't talk religion or politics....just like everywhere else. Hell, an Iraqi family just moved to my city and opened a restaurant that's doing quite well.
you also forgot to not be black, we arnt that fond of black people down here, hell the stupid cops keep shooting them all
