Voted that both works fine for me.
Went to check on my controllers after that(haven't played my 360 in probably over a year) and felt that the 360 style was a lot more comfortable. So that's my preferance, but I'm good either way.

I absolutely love the PS controller configuration, so that. I also liked the Gamecube controller, which is oddly similar to the Xbox controller, which I don't like. :/

In general, though, I prefer PS style sticks.

Added both high since that's how the WiiU does it.

I'm more used to the XBox layout, but I don't really care as long as there's two sticks and a D-Pad.

I do love the 360 controller, though.

An irony I hate about both controllers is purpose vs format.
XBOX and 360 have the L stick parallel with the face buttons, which feels weird since I play shooters on them and wish the sticks were parallel.
PS consoles have the sticks parallel, which feels weird since I play adventure and RPG games on them and use the face buttons as often as I use the L stick.

I voted for the N64 because that controller was awesome! it took the concept of sensible design and threw it out the window into oncoming traffic.

I avoid controllers as much as i can, they are uncomfortable devices and lack one simple superior thing - ability to aim a pointer. That being said, if i had to use sticks i want them where i can always reach them easily, and wiiu mode is NOT that.

Capcha: get your goat.
ok, sorry i barged into your peasant home deal console capcha :D

I've played the PS1 and then the PS2. I then bought an xbox and then an xbox 360. And I much more prefer the xbox style(which is also very similar to the Dreamcast left stick position).

And it feels more like Sony just doesn't want to move on. The Dreamcast/xbox left stick position is much better positioned. It's in the same position as the buttons on the right side, which makes sense.

I voted for the Xbox style but I think that is more to do with I just don't like the PS3's design. I'm sure I wouldn't have a problem with the PS3's stick placement if they were convex (like the 360's), the triggers were shapper more like triggers (like the 360) and the controller didn't feel small and cheap (I have larger hands so the 360 just feels more comfortable to me). I liked playing my friend's PS3 but I couldn't really play it for long sessions because my hands would get sore fairly quickly :/

I did like how the PS4's controllers have convex sticks and looks a bit better designed so maybe I might not have a problem with them.

I can seamlessly move from either controller, neither is more comfortable or feels weird. The position of the sticks has no effect on my gaming ability, neither do the triggers being "slippy" or having different functions.

Been playing ps consoles just about my whole life, must have less than 100 hours on a 360 and about 20 hours on an xbox.

I like it xbox style.
Because that makes it easy to reach.
Unlike with ps style controllers, for which I have to bend my thumb in painful ways to get to the main control stick.

The only thing that's annoying about xbox controllers is whne you have to use the left stick and d-pad at the same time. Or the right stick and the buttons...

Oh, it would be so handy to have 2 thumbs on each hand...

Hands down, the best sticks to use are:

Of the choices you offer though, I'm most familiar to the 360 layout.

One stick on the left, down low... and that only for very few games (the only type that springs to mind right now is the Batman Arkham series). Dual analog sticks feel completely unnatural to me. Case in point: I do better in racing games with pressure sensitive button throttle (and pressure sensitive D-pad steering) than with analog sticks... though I do much better with a steering wheel/pedal setup.

So I guess for games where I want an analog stick, the one I would generally prefer is

I went with the "No controllers" option, given I'm a lifelong PC gamer. I do own an Xbox360 gamepad, however, but it only sees use with emulators for systems where an analogue joystick was a standard feature (mainly PS2 and Gamecube (keyboard-only is a nightmare for Star Fox Adventures)).

Technically the N64 is left stick low, right stick high, as all the good shooters used the C buttons for the same function as a second stick.

I personally prefer the Gamecube/360 left up high, right down low approach, because it feels more natural. Sony's controllers have always been a bit awkward, and the stick layout is no exception. It feels like trying to use a golf club or baseball bat with both hands on the same spot

I definitely prefer the Xbox style. The PS4 pad doesn't look bad, but I was definitely wishing that they swapped to the way things are located on the 360 pad.

Pretty much this.

I used to prefer the PS layout but after getting a 360 and adjusting to it, I'd like to stick with it.

Also, because I'm so used to the larger controllers, when I play with PS ones I always feel like I have massive man-hands.

I like how both down low feels and looks, I can play a 360 controller fine but there doesn't seem to be any particular advantage and it doesn't fit well in my brain that the two things controlling movement aren't on the same plane. I can imagine a row of controls but in my head placing the left stick higher up makes me think that the lower stick should be swinging round it instead of operating cohesively. It's like playing the piano, but with the keys running diagonally away from you

The xbox layout looks weird, but is actually more comfortable, especially since most gameplay takes place using the left stick and the coloured buttons, so placing them both at the resting position for the thumbs makes things much easier.

I only use the controller for playing games on my PC.
