I do but rarely because I hate having to set up my old console with my old, broken controllers. I just wish the PS3 was backwards compatible with all past games back to the PS1 games.

I'll occasionally pop in an older title in an older system.

WWF: No Mercy is still the pinnacle of wrestling titles.

Yes, I love my old Nintendo 64! Nothing beats playing Majora's Mask for the 1000000th time.

Maybe if I didn't treat my old consoles like shit when I was younger, they would still be in working order and I wouldn't have to use the virtual console. But it isn't half bad, no having to change game cartridges is an added benefit along with using the wavebird for older games.

Whats with the casual = retro option?

Not all casual games were 1 hour arcade jobs. Take the classic FF games for example.

Honestly as much as I love my older games if if hasn't been remade/rereleased on the Xbox Live Arcade I probably haven't played it recently. I do have all the Super Mario and Zelda games available to download to the Wii (among others), but my Wii hasn't even been hooked up for about six months, and hasn't been used in longer than that.

PC and DS have a lot of emulation potential. Especially DS, since it's portable... Playing SNES while lying down is awesome.

I WinUAE.
As do I. Pretty much WinUAE and MAME are the only emulators I really use for any stretch of time, firstly because my Amiga 1000 was stripped of its necessary accessories by my brother for no real reason other than my 1.3 kickrom diskette had finally bitten the dust some 15 years ago. Secondly, I want to play old, favorite arcade games without having to make space and money for all of the potentially expensive arcade cabinets I'd have in my house otherwise.

For everything else I've ever had, I do still play my old retro games on their original consoles, provided that they are still functioning. As we speak, my Commodore 64 is in a box behind my sofa with a small mountain of 5.25" floppies and has even seen recent use. All of my Sega consoles remain in plain sight at all times, having dedicated my game room solely to those while my Nintendo machines (NES/SNES/N64) were packed away into the attic.

My Sega consoles look rather nice all displayed together and I'm also afraid that they may be secretly conducting an assassination attempt on my Xbox 360 and Wii at night while I'm asleep. Sure my Gamecube is still sitting there unscathed but I'm not sure how much longer he has. I swear I catch my Dreamcast giving it nasty looks out of the corner of my eye sometimes. And my 4 Genesis/Megadrives have been giving off the scent of brimstone recently... I fear I may need to call a priest soon. @_@ *snaps out of it* Sorry, what were we talking about?

Yes, yes it is. I'm happy that there is someone else out there that feels the same as I do.

Why do you think retro games are 'casual' games?

I still occasionally play the original UFO: Enemy Unknown, Syndicate, Dune 2, and a host of Amiga and Spectrum games on my PC with some emulator packages I've bought, and most of the games I play are anything but casual.

Back in the day, especially during the Amiga and Spectrum years of the 80's and early 90's, most games were only played by dedicated enthusiasts and 'computer experts', not by little kids and housewives, or whatever 'casual' gamers are.

Every game was a 'hardcore' game, since it required dedication to play (most of them were a lot more difficult than modern games), hell, they even required dedication to run and get loading.

The 'un-casual' nature of games in that era is best demonstrated by the amount of sex, porn and adult content in games and programs of that era, (especially in the front ends of cracked games), because gaming was so obscure that a lot of the industry and programs produced were unregulated.

I've got a Mega Drive, N64 and Neo Geo AES, though I don't actually use them a lot anymore. I mostly use emulators to play the games. I only bring out the actual consoles when I want the genuine feeling of playing the real thing. I hope that 20 years from now, I'll still be able to go on nostalgia trips.
