So many people bang on about their "rights" without ever actually taking the time to find out what rights they actually have. After that, those few who do actually know what they're talking about tend to ignore the responsibilities that come with those rights.

Take free speech, for example. Yes, you have the RIGHT to say what you want, but you have the RESPONSIBILITY to not say anything that could incite hatred, vilification or potential violence towards a person(s) or group.

Even America, with its rather comprehensive list of personal rights, does not include "put whatever photo you like in your schools' yearbook" on the list, so her objections based on her "rights" holds no water.

-------

TL;DR Version: She has no actual "RIGHT" to have whatever picture she wants published, and if the body governing the printing of the yearbook decides to disallow something, that's their prerogative. Boo-hoo, get a new picture.

Shirtless dudes are cool but a fully dressed slightly provocative girl isn't?
Oh I see it now, the editorial consists of 1 guy and 4 girls... I think the correct internets term for this is: "Them bitches be jelly"

And I just love the capitalistic nature of it all, they have "standards" to uphold unless ofcourse you pay for an ad, whoring out standards to the highest bidder... lovely :D

They are tasteless, but they should not be blocked from going in the yearbook. If it is how she wants to present herself, for whatever reason, then she should be allowed to. The first is more object-able than the second, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with the second, and really the first is probably less skin showing than 90% of the girls at my school have on a day to day basis. And whoever did that $300 charge should be jobless and unemployable for that extortion.

She's paying $300 to put that in the yearbook? Well, I can't judge--I spent lots of money on stupid things when I was young, too.

Also: shirtless guy is allowed? Whaaaaaaaaaaat? Well, maybe he also paid $300...

Everyone who says the clothes aren't racy should realise the top for the first picture is basically an enlarged bra, and in the second... Look at it.
The $300 rule is stupid, but the mother and daughter are even stupider. This just seems like a thing for attention. The daughter also talks like a retard, the sort of person who belongs on Beauty and the geek, or one of those top model shows with the dumb people.

Yeah, he was in the add section too.

My yearbooks always had photos taken in the standard mugshot style, so frankly the surprising part to me is that they let the students pick an outside photo at all, given that this is the inevitable result of such a choice.

At first I was like

-_-

But then...

"I really honestly think that it describes who I am, people can take it however they want but i'm an outgoing person and I really do think it's artistic. um, like I said people have their sports pictures, pictures of their horses or guitar, this is my interest"

Well I guess it describes who you are... if you're a whore.

Anyways, I'm not against her having racy pictures, but, I stand behind the decision of the student yearbook board. It's a bit overboard for a senior picture. I disagree with them allowing it at all. The 300 dollar thing to put it in as an ad is stupid.. unless she includes her phone number and her rates.

Herp a derp. Herp a fucking derp.

Self involved American teens stupidity makes national news, is the US really that vapid?

She's trying to make a name for herself, well done for making that so damn easy for her.

Ah, so thats what they mean when they say "first world problems", now i get it!

Arent there rules for what kind of clothing you can wear at school? Doesnt that answer all the questions that can be asked in this case? If she broke dress code of school - gtfo with that photo, if not, then there is no reason to block that photo......

Anyway, from what i remember yearbook and all the gifts you get when finishing school is basically one big ad campaign, so yeah.....

If the shirtless guy is allowed into the yearbook, then I see no reason why she should be kept out of it. If the school board stand by their decision - based on the picture being 'inappropriate' then they should at least boot the shirtless guy out, too.

What's good for the goose is good for the gander, I say.

maybe because shirtless guys are a common and nonsexual occurance. do you suggest that male swimmers wear a one piece from shoulders to knees

it's a yearbook, who the hell cares?
in fact, if you want to go into the yearbook completely naked, you should allow that too, if that's how you want to be remembered (put in some censor bars if you REALLY must).

isn't that the point of a yearbook, remembering people?

on the other hand, we dont have official "yearbooks" in the netherlands, not usually anyway, and whatever school does won't make a problem of provocative pictures like these.

Females being interested in modelling= being a whore?

She's not exposing anything, and males are allowed to be shirtless.

Its hilarious how gamers will jump through hoops for catwoman having her shirt open, `She's sexually liberated! It's empowering! Don't judge her for the way she chooses to dress!`

But if a REAL girl should- Whore.

inappropriate photos, end of story

who decides they are inappropriate? a group of people, it's consensus; these photos would've been good for let's say if she wanted to get a job as a... model, tabledancer, whatever, but for the intended purpose they are inappropriate (a social convention)

she can choose whatever pic she wants? certainly.
but: as well can the board decide to not accept them.

also, saying the pics aren't slutty but "artistic" and going to a TV-station, and choosing these kind of pictures in the first place, does sound a little bit like an attention whore to me, no? maybe hoping to get some contract or something, or at least the attention of agents??

if she wants to be remembered as "most likely to work in a stripclub/truck stop" that's cool with me.

His shirtless pic is also in the "ad" section, which means he paid the 300.00 to put it in there as well.

There's a difference between a modling magazine, a swimsuit magazine, a sexy woman calander, and.... a HIGH SCHOOL YEAR BOOK. She's not posing for a shoot.

If you're going to quote me, quote all of what I said..

Again.. Not the pictures I have an issue with, it's where she wants to print them. I also have an issue with the yearbook staff offering to "sell" her and the other guy a spot in the book for these "inappropriate for school" pictures. She's defiantly a pretty girl. Doesn't seem to have much going on between the years from how she speaks though.

And if they dont agree with `selling` their students, there wouldnt be an `Ad` place in the first place. Besides, modelling is her interest. Her intellect isn't the thing that should be called into question, it's the fact that had they just printed the picture, it would be a big deal to exactly no-one.
