Poll: Subs or dubs?

I usually watch the sub but in some cases I've found the dub to better.

For example Ghost Stories, it's fucking boring in the orginal japanese sub, the dub on the other hand is hilarious.

Other dubs I enjoyed are.

Dragonball Z (Grew up with the show on toonami)
Code Geass
Hetalia
Yu Yu Hakushou.

As everyone else says it really depends on what you are watching, I usually prefer subs because it helps me keep fresh with my japanese. but some anime have excellent dubs such as baccano and full metal alchemist

There's no substitution for subtitles, it just looks and sounds strange when the voice actor doesn't fit the actual actor's character.

Subtitles by far. I am lucky to live in a country where dubbing is reserved for kids' movies, and I wouldn't have it any other way. I've worked as a translator, and believe you me, dubbing a movie removes a lot of its soul.

Subs generally, especially if set in Japan, but if the dubs are of good enough quality I'll watch them too.

Dubs, unless the English is just really bad or I can't find dubs. For example the dub of the anime Durarara! is like having your ears assaulted by a cheese grater while the sub is fun to watch (most of the time). However Baccano!, a very similar anime that is often referenced in Durarara!, has a great English dub with American accents that add to the setting of the American 1930s.

dubs. definatly dubs. i will never ever understand why people prefer subs. Movies are to be watched, not read.

Trust me, peripheral vision is enough if you've been watching subbed movies all your life.

And another thing: it helps you learn foreign languages. I and most of my friends already knew basic English as kids before we started taking it in school, because back then, even cartoons were subbed.

And besides, it's a lot less jarring than fucking mismatches speech coming out of a character whose voice doesn't suit in the least the character, actor and mood that he's playing.

Definitely Dubbing.

Subtitles can sometimes pass by quicker than I can read them. They also distract me from watching the actors and their setting. Lastly, reading sometimes takes me out of the immersion of watching T.V.

Subs, although this question hasn't been relevant in any practical way since the advent of the DVD. I remember seeing an anime I wanted and going to buy it before realizing it was just the dub version. Then I would just mail-order the one I wanted out of a catalog. 6-8 weeks later I had my anime and was ready to go!

Dubs

1. I don't want to stare at the bottom of the screen the entire time
2. I usually turn off the volume to not hear people talking in one language while I read in another, meaning I miss good music or important sounds
3. Speed of subs can be too slow or too fast

Dubs on anime, subs on foreign movies. Watch an anime, the mouths move up and down, they don't form different characters, so technically any language could fit. Just a matter of getting a good voice actor.

Hells yea. I hate the whole 'japanese language is ALWAYS better in anime thing'. A lot of the japanese voices.....cant voice act worth shit and end up sounding monotone, like they're just reading off their script.

it depends on what specifically i'm watching but generally speaking i prefer subs.
i can't stand to watch a dubbed foreign (live action) movie, but in terms of anime it depends on the quality of the dubbing. the dubs of Naruto and One Piece are horrible, but more because of poor editing, omission, and choice of voice talent rather than poor dubbing. however, Hellsing, Big O, InuYasha, and the original DragonBall Z dubs are pretty good.
