Poll: Subs or dubs?

Do you prefer dubbing or subtitles for media originally made in a language you don't speak?

I prefer dubbing as it allows my eyes and ears to ech do their own jobs rathern than my eyes doing both, but alot of english voice acting is rather sub-par unfortunatly. Although for anything live action or with very accurate mouth animations I prefer subtitles because whatever gain is made by hearing dialogue in my native language is lost through the "speed racer effect" where the disconnect in-between what I hear and what my eyes expect me to hear is so great as to become jarring, comical, or otherwise break the immersion of the audience.

So what do you think?

I'm a subs fan. Mostly because I get weirded out when the voices don't match up with the faces, as tends to happen with live-action. But I imagine it's a bit of a cultural thing. Here in Australia (and I expect other countries) subs tend to be preferred while I noticed in Europe it seemed that dubs were preferred. It was a bit of a head-trip seeing English-speaking shows dubbed in Italian and German, and needing (bad) subtitles to watch them.

I find this less of an issue with animation, if the dubbing quality is good.

If it's quite long, I prefer dubs.
But if it's like 13 episodes Elfen Lied, then I don't mind subs.

I favor subtitles by far.

Usually, especially with anything from Japan, the reasoning behind it is the will to learn the language.

For anime, dubs, if availiable. I rarely hear a dub I don't like these days. Although, some of them may not be as good as the original Japanese dub, they are still decent enough to watch, especially when I rewatch something.

As for live-action, subs, hands down. It just seems so strange in english.

Live action has to be subtitles, especially with earlier films. I was watching some early Jackie Chan movies about a week ago, and I had to stop and download a subbed version before I could actually enjoy it.

I prefer subs for anime as well, though I have found a few with decent voice acting.
