Depends on whether it's a story-driven game and how good the voice actor's diction is. I can't understand a motherfucking word you said, Little Jacob.

I use them whenever I play games. I hate having the game glitch and you see someones mouth move but then you can't hear anything. Subtitles help to remedy that.

I prefer subtitles in my games cause I read so much faster then the voice actors spew their melodramatic lines. I'll sit through a whole conversation if it interests me, but more often then not I read and speed through most cutscenes.

I too, also prefer my anime subbed to dubbed, but sometimes it's fun to watch the english dub with the subs and see all the screwups and changes made to dialogue

Depends on the content. I always pick subs over dubs. But if something is originally English I'll just listen.

Yes, you never know when you're not paying attention properly and you miss a word. Oh, and subs over dubs. Especially with anime.

If a game has clear speech and I want to get a little more immersed, I turn them off. Otherwise, I usually have them on.

I know English really well, but sometimes it's just hard to hear what characters/actors are saying (especially if some weird accent kicks in) on the screen so subtitles are always on given the chance.

If I watch something in Polish - I don't need them because I understand everything perfect from voice alone.

I've had a hearing problem since I was young so if subtitles are available, I have them on.

My thoughts exactly (but I'm Dutch). I think I speak English really well, but in Dutch, I can't help but hearing whatever is said. In English, at least I have to pay attention (so in games like Mass Effect I usually miss all the background banter). As for conversations, it's just easier because you can skip boring parts and still know what's going on by scanning the sentence. Also, there's the off chance that some sound effect, weird accent or word I don't know pops in, which is pretty much remedied by subtitles.

For television, I really don't need subtitles, but it doesn't bother me at all if they're there.
