Mount and Blade (Don't really know if it was this generation, i don't play on consoles)
In spite of actually looking like Morrowind times (engine wise), it was solidly in this generation. The current Console generation is shaping up to be 2005 - ~2013.

For new (meaning not part of a series that existed before this generation so series start date of no earlier than 2005) non-shooter AAA IP in this generation (based on my Steam library):

Assassins Creed
Champions Online (MMO)
Dragon Age
L.A. Noire
Overlord
Tera (MMO)
The Witcher

Given that based on the definition of new IP games like Call of Duty don't even qualify to be compared to these because they predate this generation. Series like Gears of War qualify but seeing as how Max Payne doesn't even qualify as new IP it seems to me that there are more new AAA non-shooter series being started than there are AAA shooter series.

The fact that my Steam library includes over 180 games with fewer than 10 shooters make me think that it isn't that life isn't that bad. :)

This generation has been goin on awhile... so I'll just showcase the newest ones I've played recently: Gravity Rush.

It is a shame that such a beautiful game is stuck on the Vita's tiny screen. That there's a game that deserves to be drunk in from a large screen. I really wish more games would use this visual style. Because it is just amazing, the type of thing that will still look amazing well down the line.

OT: There are a lot more shooters than there were last generation. Some have been good some have been bad, but I wouldn't say there have been too many.

Examples of games that aren't shooters, you ask OP?

inFamous
Elder Srolls
Darksiders
God of War
Dragon Age
Saint's Row
Journey
Bit.Trip.Beat
Prototype
Enslaved
Xenoblade
Portal (by means of you don't actually shoot enemies)
Terraria
Torchlight
Diablo
Dark Souls
Skyward Sword
Twilight Princess
Super Mario Galaxy
New Super Mario Bros
MINECRAFT!

Do you need more, or are you happy that there's not just shooters in our market?

It's a shame that people with Simpson avatars will wax poetic about things they don't have...

The screen is much larger than any other handheld system, but your kiddy tablets have shit operating systems that can't compete with real game systems... but since you don't own it, you want to talk down at it.

That's a spoiled American type prejudice dood.

Did you ever learn about cables? You know, those things that can connect things to each other? Savvy? Eh?

It's sad, just like hearing about a PC gamer that can't use his HD tv, but has to use his over priced 'monitor'.

lol

Wow, you got a lot of anger just bubbling at the top, don't ya? Just jump down a guys throat for anything. In the future, I'll refrain from commenting on the size of a portable console's screen, as apparently, that's a touchy subject for some people.

Alan wake is another good one.
This guy?
-picture sniped for length-
I'm pretty sure he's shooting.

OT - Not really. There are as many as the market can support. If you look in the right places there are plenty of non shooter games.
There are probably more non shooters on PC due to the comparatively limited controls on consoles for things like RTS games.
Also, a lot of RPGs tend to be long running series because the world is what tends to draw the player in, rather than characters. Players always like to return to a setting they love.
Creating a new IP for RPGs is that bit harder I would imagine.
There is a fundamental difference between a shooter and a game with shooting in it. Not defending Alan Wake, but preempting a misconception I have seen a lot in threads like this. Also, some RPGs draw in people for the world (Elder Scrolls Games, Fallout Games), and some for the characters and story (Dragon Age, Mass Effect).
Yeah I know. I was just teasing. :p
I know that not all RPG's are the same and that people come to different series' for different reasons. Having said that I do love the settings of both Mass Effect and Dragon Age, so they still play a huge part. And if you already have an established world, then it's much easier to use that than to start a new IP. Hence the sequels.

Anger?

Yeah, I got tons. Not sure why you'd want to call me out on that... unless...

YOU WANT TO PLAY THE GAME?!?!?!?!?!1

Err, uhmmm...

You look down on handhelds... it's okay, I did too for a long time.

I forgive you.
I don't look down on handhelds one bit. It's just that, when I see an amazingly beautiful game tied to a handheld, I wish the screen wasn't a few inches across. Trust me, if I could afford a Vita, I'd get one. There are several games for it that I'd love to play, but I don't have the disposable income to plop down $250+ for a new system, seeing as my family can barely pay the rent and all. Maybe if the economy wasn't in the shitter and i could actually get a job, I would.

Also, what 39 games does imahobbit own? That sounds like a hell of a lot of games in the first place
You do realise there are a lot of us around here with well over a hundred games in our collections?

39 games is pretty low.
Thats pretty messed up man...Dont be that kind of guy that acts like a badass just because you say over the internet that he sucks. Truthfully the 39 games he has non gaming equals the games I have all together-and hes got another 11 shooters on top of that. Its not about what you have its what others compare to. If one person thinks that someone with 5 games is alot then that is a lot to that guy if its 293 games that's alot then respect it. Got it.
Off-topic: there are bound to be websites with lists of all the games available for the xbox(if not just the best of them all) and even then if you look there are definitely more nonshooters then shooters(though they as an individual game rarely have the support to advertise enough) and many of them have more playability then a shooter as well depending on your playstyle that is

New IP's dood... sure you listed some of the same ones I did... but your list needs to be more on topic, savvy?
Oh, my mistake. Here, I'll pull an addendum. Just for you, I'll throw on a few more.

Dragon's Dogma
'Splosion Man
Fez
Catherine
Bastion
World of Warcraft
Epic Mickey
Dead Rising
Amnesia
Super Meat Boy
VVVVVV
Limbo
No More Heroes
Dante's Inferno
Bayonetta
Trine
Valkyria Chronicles

All of these are within the past few years, and all of the above are only this generation of platforms. Is that enough new IP for you, or do we need to keep dancing?
