So, I have a 1000 Wii points left from a card purchase. Originally, this was meant to be used with Super Mario RPG.

However, with the very recent release of Chrono Trigger, I'm a little conflicted. I've always wondered about and wanted to try Chrono Trigger. However, the same goes for Super Mario RPG. The only difference is I know the type of humor to expect from Super Mario RPG.

It comes down to which game is clear cut better, so why not ask one of the better forums I attend, the Escapist.

(For people who know my posts, yep, already bored of WoW).

That's a tough one, as they are both two excellent RPGs. I prefer ChronoTrigger slightly more, its not quite as humorous as SMRPG, but CT is truly a gem of the genre.

Unfortunately, I can't say I've ever played Chrono Trigger, but Super Mario RPG really is a lot of fun. There's some pretty good humour in there and the art style is certainly... Unique =)

Having only played one of those, I'll go for the one I didn't play. The one I did play was a flat, un-engaging and dry experience that went completely against the calibre of bot it's writer and it's artist.

I have SMRPG on the virtual console but haven't played it yet, so I can't recommend playing one game over the other, but you could probably find pretty inexpensive versions of Chrono Trigger for the PSone (as part of Final Fantasy Chronicles) or on the DS, plus both of these versions have extra features, whereas the VC is the only place you can play SMRPG legally other than having an original SNES copy.

With L.A Noire out, my odds of getting a Child of Eden review copy being minimal, Skyward Sword incoming, the 3DS getting real games, Rage existing, Deus Ex tempting me to let it bless my console, The Last Guardian requiring me to play it to nominate it for GOTY, and Duke Nukem flipping off society by actually releasing, my wallet is kinda stuck on one or the other game here for a long time.

$15 is out of the question? Because that's about what FF Chronicles and Chrono Trigger DS go for. If you insist on one or the other, even though I haven't yet played SMRPG, Chrono Trigger is regarded as one of the greatest games ever developed, and saying it's well worth playing would be an understatement.

This is $20 I got for selling a free MS-office code my school gave me to my ignorant cousin. I used it for Majora's Mask and one of these games. The rest of my money isn't exactly expendable. Car insurance, gas money, colleges bills, food money, and current games so I can partake in reviews all takes up a lot of time. Plus, CT DS is more expensive than it is on VC.

I played both of them really late (about 2 years ago).

I completed Chrono Trigger and want to replay it soon, Super Mario RPG has got about 5 hours of gameplay played and I'm sick of it.

Take of that what you will.

I picked Chrono Trigger but only on the understanding that they are both amazing games, and Chrono Trigger probably only wins because I played it recently and remember it more

Chrono Trigger will absorb all of your time until its finished. Don't buy it if you have food to buy, a job to go to, etc.

I'd go with SMRPG since if you wanna play, you can only get it on VC anyway. You can always play CT later and decide whether you want to play it on DS or VC when the funds come up again.

Definitely Super Mario RPG.

The only thing Chrono Trigger really has on it is more endings, and they're mostly the same and you'd have to be crazy to beat the final boss 12 different ways or whatever.
