And ho ho ho, France got beat by the perennial whipping boys Italy today,
I needed a distraction from this to be honest though
=P Understandable... though knowing Les Bleus, they'll come to the British Isles and go back leaving a trail of blood! (And I mean that in the nicest possible way!)
I might actually be seeing that game. Not sure yet.

I swear, of the four 'handegg' sports (Rugby Union, Rugby League, Aussie Rules & American Football), American Football has the least 'ball' to foot contact. At least the others have the decency to exclude the term 'football' in their colloquial names. Jeez... -_-
It used to have much more. But then some rules got changed, and kicking the ball became less useful. Or something like that.

But lol you sound like such a stereotypical British sports fan
Which British stereotype you referring to, there're plenty: French-hating? American-hating? Upper-class snob-type? Football hooligan? Which one? So many!

To be fair, though... when I wrote that post, I was channelling a bit of all of 'em! :)
American hating, "lol wtf's 'soccer'", "fuck-american-rugby" kind of person.

My profession is Sports Journalist. I write for the largest sports website in the Northwest US. Yes I'm watching, no I don't care who wins. I don't want to see Ray Lewis get a win in his goodbye, but I despise Randy Moss of the 49ers.

It was a good game, Niners made it close towards the end.
How can you despise Randy Moss? Everyone he's played with has said essentially nothing but good things about him, and this years 49er's team has praised him for being a good role model and things of that nature

Huh... Almost no one here seems to like HandEgg XD

The only reason I watched it was for the commercials. Yeah, I'm not the biggest sports aficionado.

That, and that's what the rest of my family was watching.

This site is packed full of eurokiddies so I have no doubt the last option will win.
Dear FelixG

Thanks for your wise words of wisdom. Unfortunatley this does not hold from the fact that Hand Egg sucks. So by all means, stuff your face with cheese nachos and soda while you get advertised at every 5 mins for stuff you don't need, while watching your rugby for girls on steroids (actual steroids, you don't get like that naturally) while you all dance about smacking each others arses in a red white and blue glitter explosion waving your flags and shouting 'murica.

Yours Sincerely

A. Eurokiddy.

ps. See... Generalising, its not nice is it?
Of course it's a generalisation, that's the point.
Ah sorry, I get it, it's just that you are a bit of a prat then. Well have fun watching your hand egg, while us real men play sports without girl armour.
lol, your posts are just HI-LAR-IOUS bro! Calling the padding "girl armour"? Why hasn't anybody else thought of that before? Keep up the good, nay, GREAT work!!!!!!11!!!

No decent superbowl parties teeming with single women, so I didn't give a damn this year.
Games centered around balls don't interest me, though sometimes their fans are fun people to be around.

The front page of Reddit was flooded with jokes about the power going out during the Super Bowl. That, and something to do with Beyonce (SP?). That was how I knew the super bowl was doing it's thing.

If I had to choose between a bird and a number though...Ravens are used a lot in the Song of Ice and Fire series...

Lol where do I even start with this.

Firstly, I don't like the sport. I never said I did. I'm not even American. I'm actually fucking European. Like you.

Secondly, the point of that post you quoted was that people from Europe generally don't like the sport, as you have literally just supported yourself and which is supported in general by the fact that it's an obscure sport here and usually gets a lot of derision, as you have just demonstrated.

Thirdly, the protective equipment is obviously necessary when you see some of the insane tackles that happens in american football. And the helmets can actually intensify injuries.

Sometimes I watch it but here's a list of why I didn't
1. Lack of a good halftime show
2. the Puppy Bowl was on
3. I tend not to care about football

To think I'd might have watched it if they'd get someone talented to do the halftime show.

I like football, but I've never really liked the Super Bowl. There's no way it deserves as much media attention as it gets in the few weeks beforehand, it's played on a neutral field, the commercials, the halftime show, and the fact that the best team in the NFL, or even one of the top 5 teams, rarely wins the SB.

"Everyone else is, so why not?"

In a sense. I got invited to a few superbowl parties and it was just time to spend with my friends, so I did. Left when the power went out to go see another friend, but we more talked and I helped him with web development then watching the game since neither of us care for football.

It's not that I dislike it, it's that I'd have to be up at 2am to watch it and pay for the privilege thanks to Sky. I don't care about it enough to do that.

Funnily enough, I am currently watching the highlights on the BBC red button, and, even though I already know the score, I am still rooting for the Ravens.

I watched because I like American Football, and I'm committed enough to stay up until almost 4am to watch it all here in the UK. I supported the 49ers because I'm in a constant argument with my friend about whether the overall quality is better in the AFC or the NFC. Also I got sick of hearing about Ray Lewis, who frankly sounds like a massive bellend.

Overall it was a cracking game this year, even better watching than last year when my team won and even with a very irritating delay.

It's called football because the ball is a 1 foot long from point to point. The name has nothing to do with the foot contact.
No it's not.

Whilst I was interested in the result, in Australia it simply wasn't on in a friendly time slot (ie mid morning on a Monday) to consider watching the game

I'm American and I don't care for it. To some people I seem to be breaking some sort of unwritten commandment. The only way I watch it is if my family makes a huge dinner of unhealthy deep fried food to celebrate the American holiday.

I'm a Brit who's always had a passing interest in American football since the first time I saw a game late at night when I crawled downstairs with agonising earache to find my Dad asleep in front of Superbowl XXII (go Redskins!). So I stayed up to the bitter end for this one; the last couple of years I've had to be at work the next morning and it wasn't really viable to watch it.

Plus one of my cousins who I live with is a Ravens fan.

So yeah. Watched it because it's not often that I get to and because of a mild interest in one of the teams.

To those expressing confusion about the rules - they're not really that confusing (nothing like as confusing as football's offside rule, anyway). The confusing bit is trying to decipher all the names used for different plays and strategies; I still don't know what the hell a Statue Of Liberty play is or the details of a pistol offense or a blitz or or or, while footy strategy names don't get much more complex than "route one" (because, ironically, there's so much more variety).

Not a huge American Football fan and I usually find the Superbowl to be overblown and over-hyped.

But this one was actually a good one - it had controversy, a close game and some great scores.

Personally I can't American football games in their entirety (as I find the stoppages and grinding plays a bit monotonous) but love viewing a good highlights package (co-incidentally that is also how I prefer to watch my soccer). Rugby is my sport with the occasional league game thrown in.
