I swear quite a bit and am told I am somewhat intelligent, so I don't think there is a correlation. I will say that people that say fuck or some other word every other word don't seem as smart as someone that doesn't swear at all.

You people realise that IQ 100 is the average level right? And that 120 is the kind of people that come up with Quantum Mechanics theories and build spacecrafts?

Edit: 141+ is Da Vinci and Einstein level by the way.

I'm the smartest person I know, and I swear often. Mainly I swear out of anger, to add emphasis, or for comedic value. I swear for no other reason (there aren't many other reasons I can think of).

I just did an IQ test (iqtest.com - so you know it must be accurate) and I got 131. I'd say I probably get an automatic bump up for not being stupid enough to give my credit card details so I can get a shitty certificate telling me that.

Many intelligent people swear, but the IQ doesn't delegate intelligence correctly. There are multiple IQ tests, and I've done more than one and gotten different numbers on all.
This. and I fucking swear my fu-
never mind, I'll just get banned. I don't know my IQ, does anyone know where I could get an IQ test? I chose 121-140 just because I can comprehend stuff very easily, But I don't know for sure. but I do swear a lot!

don't know my iq, don't really care to know it either but i do swear

i think the main thing is how you can articulate yourself. the intelligence and swearing part comes in when you can't do anything but swear in order to say what you want. i can say anything i want without swearing.

there really is a right time and a wrong time to swear and use vulgarities in your speech, it really depends on the audience you are addressing. a bunch of academics and high class people you shouldn't swear but with a bunch of blue collar workers, you should pepper in some swear words.

there is no direct correlation between swearing and intelligence but there is some to it, it's just not 100%

I swear every now and then. It's been around s long as language (imagine if it was the first spoken word lol). Anyway a recent study found a link between swearing and pain management.

http://blogs.discovermagazine.com/discoblog/2009/07/13/can-you-cuss-away-your-pain-study-says-yes/&ei=YmVbSqGkGIrANuD-nUM&sa=X&oi=news_group&resnum=1&ct=image&usg=AFQjCNE5_X28eX6rhthqByMosfmXQGPSTA/

So it depend on the circumstances, but I would'nt say it's linked to intelligence. In fact your knowledge of swear words prove intelligence. Although children may swear more if brough up in a poor environment, and therefore would also receive a poor education.
