I got into a car accident today, and naturally I was swearing up a storm. The other driver said I shouldn't swear. I told him there are moments in life where its appropriate. Was I right in saying that? Is there a time where it's legit to cuss? Discuss.

There are plenty of times it's good to cuss. If someone has a problem with that they're either christian or 12 years old.

EDIT: I'm sure christians don't ALL have a problem with swearing, but it was only a joke.

When you need to make a point to someone who won't listen to you otherwise.

yes but you may come off as overly aggressive and irritable. This could be used in court against you if there were any legal actions needed.

Oh lord, Its none-stop swears when that happens.

OT: Yes there are moments when swearing is called for. Usually in really bad moments, and in really WTF moments.

Yeah, there are times when swearing is appropriate. If you don't swear too often, its an easy way to show you're really angry.

I think people who say you shouldn't swear are just crazy, like those people who will act like farting and burping are things that no one else ever does.

OT: I swear about most things bad and/or unpleasantly surprising.

I hate people who swear between every other word /: so rude.
Finding out my house got robbed this morning had me swearing like a sailor! And threatening thing air haha.
I accidentally stabbed myself in the hand trying to open some wine too... There were a few four letter words coming out of my mouth then.

I don't know how certain words can be morally wrong when said, but other words used in the same tone and meaning the same thing are fine. For example: saying eff, is okay, but fuck is not.

I'm Scottish, it's like a sport over here:p
Indeed it is, a drunk man out my window is swearing right now.

I'm pro-swearing whenever appropriate, but I rarely actually do so, because everyone else in this shithole, backwater, cow-humping sandlot of a country I live in does. Between every word. As if it was just casual conversation.

Personally, I think swearing, when used appropriately and sparingly, enhances the effect of a statement to convey greater amounts of joy, sorrow, rage or excitement than simply repeating the same 2-3 swears over does.

For example: "Fuck fuck fuck fuck SHIT FUCK COCKS" as opposed to "Oh man, we are so fucked."

The former is more "12 year old with a mic", while the latter, especially when coming from a previously stoic individual, really sends the "You are about to die HORRIBLY" message very clearly.

Sadly, unless they can bottle experience, introspection and wisdom, there never will be.

Pity, Comic, film and game writers could use a bottle of maturity.

Swearing relieves stress.

It's like the socially acceptable version of drugs/masturbation.

I was trying to unroll a roll of paper once, but the sheets were sticking together and I clawed at it out of frustration. Hit one of the fingers on the hand I was holding the paper with. I took off a chunk of skin on one side of the nail a couple millimeters thick.

The obscenities came after a long roar of pain. I'd say they were justified, yes.

Really though. If someone's ignoring you, just belt out a profanity and it'll catch their attention in the blink of an eye. Works for me every once and a while.
