When you need to make a point to someone who won't listen to you otherwise.
Really though. If someone's ignoring you, just belt out a profanity and it'll catch their attention in the blink of an eye. Works for me every once and a while.
Especially if you don't normally swear. It'll really shock them, and they'll know you mean business.

There are tons of times when cussing is appropriate!

For example:

Nuclear launch detected.

See?

It's all about context. If you're a teacher at an elementary school and volunteer at the church in your spare time, then no. It's not okay to swear with anything approaching regularity.

If you work in my office, no one will think less of you for not swearing, but you're %*(! sure not going to stand out for dropping the occasional F-bomb.

This goes double (to triple) if you work in the IT department, like me.

At the end of the day, they are words. Unfortunately, it matters more how others interpret those words than what you mean when you say them, but if you know your coworkers/friends are okay with it, go nuts.

Oh yeah. I swear all the time. It's better if you know how to swear (as in it makes you seem intelligent, and not sound like a retard). For more info I suggest you look up Luis Black and Stephen Fry's opinions on swearing via youtube.

Swearing is fun, in my opinion. The words sound good, they sound funny, and they good placeholders when all you want are words through which you can channel abstract emotion. However, when things get down to serious business, it's time to switch to words that simply and accurately describe what you want to say.

And for some reason swearing has the peculiar tendency to make certain types of company feel more friendly.

Personally I think "swear" words are just words that people give power, and what are words but noises that are shaped by your tongue, so yes I swear all the time because they're just words

I am irish. We use swearwords as punctuation.

I have been trying to cut down recently, though. They are not really as effective when you say them all the time.

My first bounty in RDR when you get to Mexico.

I go to the guy's location from Chuparosa, and wipe out every single person aside from the target. I shoot him in the leg, he goes down, I take out my lasso and get ready to tie him down.

As I get off my horse, the bastard pulls out a Schofield and pops me twice in the head while he's on his wounded knee. I die, respawn aaallll the way back to those docks which are basically a free bed, and swear my ass off when I realize how far I am.

Seriously, that's bullshit. Moments like this warrant swearing, and MW2 causes it naturally which is why I avoid it. Overall sweating should be reserved for "ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?!" moments like the above.
