Well hello there my fellow Escapist's! After receiving the most recent addition to my collection, I began to wonder how many Escapist's collected swords and how many they had. On top of that, I'd be interested to know how long you've been a collector and what items have found their way into your humble (or not so humble) collection. For conversation sake, please at least tell me about the sword that started it all for you.

As a bonus topic for fans of wolves, George R.R. Martin's series A Song of Ice and Fire or the TV show A Game of Thrones, please tell me your opinion on the following swords:

Longclaw, Sword of Jon Snow [http://www.valyriansteel.com/shop/swords/longclaw-sword-of-jon-snow/prod_2.html]

Ice, Sword of Eddard Stark [http://www.valyriansteel.com/shop/swords/ice-sword-of-eddard-stark/prod_9.html]

The very first sword I bought, and is sadly no longer a part of my collection, was a ninjata that I bought while over in Japan. While I was moving from Hawaii to Maryland this was stolen along with my XBOX 360. The sword that restarted my collection is a wooden bastard sword that I bought as a souvenir from a [ii]Medieval Times[/i] show. I also have an eight ball sword cane, a wooden Chinese sword, a "Bloodrayne zombie/vampire slaying sword, Cloud's Buster Sword, Sephiroth's Masamune blade, a lightsaber (my sister's friend builds them) and the Howling Wolf blade that I recently purchased.

As for my bonus topic, Longclaw should be everything I want in a sword. It's a large, beautifully crafted sword featuring a wolf head pommel. The problem with it, in my opinion, is that the wolf head is hideous! The one featured on the TV show is marginally better, but still not something I would look at with anything but revulsion. Were I to ever buy this sword, I would have that wolf head replaced with a howling head, cast in stainless steel to match the blade and lining up better with the hilt.

Ice, in my opinion is everything a sword should be, except that it matches neither the description given in the book or the sword shown on the TV show. Is that an issue for me? Not at all. Hopefully this sword will be gracing my collection soon!

Re: archery kit... of antiquity or contemporary.
It's a working Uru-Kai(?).....Lord of the Rings, short bow and arrow set, works really well, he keeps eyeing up a British Long bow and says the modern bows are "abominations".
Oh, Uruk-hai, I think... akin to short composite bows horse-archers used.

Anyway, how is this not the sexiest thing?!

And Nicky Hunt's not bad looking either! =P

I have...Hold on...

Master Sword replica
Short short
A sword that splits into two swords
A sabre
A sword with a matching dagger (tanto point)

So five or six, depending on if you count the splitter as one or two.

Got quite a few in the meantime, main piece's are a Javan kris knife, which I got as a gift from my grandfather, a WW2 katana, a U.S. Civil War small sword, a kukhri from Nepal, an old pike from Switzerland, and a host of other smaller daggers etc.
Furthermore, I got a longbow and 2 crossbow's sitting at home.
Really love the replica's from Game of Thrones, they look pretty neat from the photo's.

Hmm...Master Sword replica (it's more of a Master Club, for how impractically heavy the blade is), bokutou, shinai, wooden gladius, sakabatou set, normal replica daisho set, and a bamboo jian.

Granted, only three of those are metal, and the jian really can't be used as a weapon except in the most desperate of circumstances, but I like it nonetheless. They're also backed up by a pair of tonfa and a quarterstaff, but that's another story.

I have a few, though sadly not of very high quality, they are wallhangers, but not crappy IMO. :)
I own:
Katana,
Nordic sword (I am a man from the north after all) http://www.weaponmasters.com/shopping/Classic-Viking-Sword-p-17191.html
Cutlass, nothing special
Small chinese straight sword bought in China, very cheap and just a souvenir.
Roman short sword/dagger, looks like this one but in bronze: http://www.realarmorofgod.com/store/cart.php?m=product_detail&p=523

I only have two swords:
a wakizashi, which I originally thought to be a katana, but then realized it was too short to be one
and a replica of Sting, Bilbo/Frodo's sword from the Hobbit/LotR.

Sting is sitting in a box back at home in Minnesota, and I bought the wakizashi here in Japan.

I have two, the first is a good old Samurai blade, because I love the whole samurai element from japanese history. A lot of people ask me "why do you want that?, its just a boring slab of metal" I see it as a work of art though, reflecting a culture Im interested in. The second is a fairly common display sword, which my friend has informed me may be trying to pose as the sword from the Heroes series, I dunno though, I just think its cool to have in my room. You know, for when the monsters try to get me when the lights are out. All in all thats probably all the swords for me though, my wall has room for some axe's and other melee weapons though, maybe even a Kusari-Gamma (probably spelt that wrong).

Been collecting since Middle School.

Started with the cheaply made, way over priced, rat-tail garbage ([a href="http://www.kitrae.net/fantasy/sota_new.html" target="new"]kit rae[/a] swords, etc.) because I was a stupid kid who didn't know any better, and they look cool.

In High School I started learning about types of steel and construction techniques. I started shopping around for good western swords but good deals were very hard to find. Once I finally got internet at my house though and was exposed to the vast quantity of sellers about there with really good stuff and low prices my collection exploded, as I saved up money.

I have a few Cold Steel Swords I got as close-outs, design changes I find retarded on their warrior series and dragonfly series made the pre '08 swords 1/4 to 1/5 the MSRP. I paid $200 for my [a href="http://www.coldsteel.com/dragonflysword.html" target="new"]Dragonfly Wakazashi[/a], my favorite, was over $700 MSRP.

I just recently got a United Black [a href="http://www.trueswords.com/united-black-damascus-golden-kogane-tachi-samurai-sword-p-5152.html" target="new"]tachi[/a] and while it's anything other than traditional it is well made.

I collect more than just swords, I also have axes, and knifes of all shapes and sizes. I'm at about 12 swords, 5 actually functional high carbon battle-ready; and around 50 knives, none of my knives are 440 Stainless (my kitchen knifes are even 1050).

I inherited a couple from my older brother. They're rather massive. Though if I got a Master Sword and Squall's Gunblade, my life would be complete.

My first more or less real sword is a Japanese katana made in china for knifenordic, blue wave i think it's called, it has a picture of a bridge over water on the guard and inexpensive blue string wrapping. Seems pretty solid, made out of 1060 steel, somewhat poorly sharpened tip and base.
My second sword is an unsharpened Hanwei Hsu Jian with wood handle, i ordered it sharpened with fiberglass handle.
It's not a sword exactly, but i also have a 20 inch HI Sirupati Khukuri made by U.B. with wood handles, i ordered it with horn handle.
I don't count my machetes.

I have 3-4 Highlander replicas that I got back when the series was in it's hayday. As for functional, I'm more of a knife guy, 6-8 mostly throwers. Too bad I suck with them.

9 so far.

Technically 8 due to one of them being a bit more dagger"ish". It is a long one though so I class it with my swords.

Next on my list, Conner McClouds sword replica from Highlander.

I have a Kuhkri, Buster Sword, and a Smith and Wesson black steel knife.

I don't collect so much as like swords.

I also have a pair of nunchaku, and I had plenty of knives when I was younger but I got rid of them all when I realised that I was too immature to have them. I'm now older and (I like to think) wiser. I still only have the one sharp knife.
