I have been playing around in Starcraft, and i just recently played a guy who used the Terran liftoff mechanic to hide a command center in the corner of the map. Mind you this corner was over space and it sat there for 15 minutes until my void rays dismantled it. This struck me as ridiculous because I always believed that in some way there was honor among "Esports." So my fellow escapees is there such thing as good sportsmanship in "Esports" which goes beyond the friendly "gg" at the end of the match?

Note: When this happened I had already destroyed everything he owned, besides the command center that was just floating in space.

Not really. That's a legitimate tactic in starcraft. The only honor is if there's a known cheap thing such as in WoW using a spell that has an hour long cooldown in a duel.

The same thing has happened to me; I find it highly frustrating as well.

I think that everyone should try to be as polite as possible, whether in real life or online.

I think the point was that the Terran had already lost the match.

which spell would that be?

OT: its a very legitimate strategy, I've seen replays where the Terran even says something like or something similar, and the opponent would actually quit the match.
Btw, there is never honor amongst Esports.

They aren't Void Rays anymore. According to the SC2 Forums, they are now officially called "Cheese Rays". Lift-Off doesn't bug me. It just delays the inevitable.

Not necessarily. Whenever I played I always hid one in the corner.

Lay on Hands, a paladin spell that heals you for full health.

just always be friendly ... unless someone else is acting like an @sshole, then act the same way towards him :)

I pull that move and others pull that move usually its just for giggles. So unsportsmanlike? Not really but you should be fairly polite when playing.

That Spells cooldown is significantly shorter now. I believe its 20 mins.

That's a completely legitimate technique, you should be more worried about why

hmm... if it came down to teh slimmest of wires and there were only ground forces duking it out an dit became a race to destroy eachother's buildings, I guess the liftoff'ed guy would be kind of a good thing... but otehr than that I don't see how it could possibly be a good thing.

Annoying.

I would probably say GG most games, I wouldnt if the opponent was excessively cheesing or just being bad mannered with hiding a pylon in the corner of the map or something.

The guy tried to douchebag you for sure but it's not really cheese as it does nothing but annoy you at the end of the game.
I picked the "It's a competition no love here".

It happens so rarely that you don't have to worry all that much about it, it's more annoying when they move to that small island on Scrap station or other maps with islands.
If you catch them doing it early you're A-ok but otherwise it can fuck you over.

Hard to say without more details. If the CC was his only remaining building, then yes it's an annoying delay tactic. But it's also shameful that it took you 15 minutes to find it. Some people just hate to lose, so they'll delay as long as possible. It's not like cheating or anything, just a minor inconvenience.

Which is now a 20 min cooldown, the hour cooldown was from a time when there was a slew of spells that had obscene cooldowns. I've been playing since vanilla and the crying about cooldowns is stupid, yea I'm sorry your class doesn't have any cooldowns that are over 10 mins and it's cool if you pop everything in your arsenal to stay alive and kill me, but I use something in my arsenal I'm no longer honorable, bullshit.
Where do you/ where should one draw the line as to what time makes an acceptable to use cooldown for a fight?

OT: Yea it's an annoying thing to lift a CC and hide it but the zerg can do a similar tactic by hiding their drones burrowed somewhere on the map. Hell in almost every match as soon as I research burrow I send one of my drones to go burrow in some obscure part of the map, just in case. Hell I've even won some matches by having a single drone hidden and used what was remaining of my army to clean the enemy's base out causing him/her to lose.

I really don't think there is a ton of esportsmanship in SC2, hell something like a person saying "gl hf" would be nice 99% of the time anywhere else, but in SC2 it translates to "get ready to be rushed *****, enjoy getting owned".
Things like gg just has turned into one of those things people say at the end of the game. There is no real meaning behind it, most people won't be like wow the was an intense match I'm so glad i participated in it good game, good game.

I think it's a cheap tactic. No tactic that gets your opponent to quit in frustration is legit. You should quit when you've lost. You've lost when you have no income and no way to get it.
That's when you "gg" and start a new game where you do better.

I haven't played since BC, when it was an hour cooldown. It was always considered by the community that this one spell was the cheap one, and the general rule was anything over 20 minutes and potions weren't allowed, as it wasn't so much skill at that point as it was cooldowns.

Too bad a majority of the wow community is pants on head retarded, do you not see the crys of one thing or another being OP. And the whole its on a 20 min cooldown argument is bs, if it was on a 5 min cooldown people would still complain because people don't like to fight a mechanic/spell they can't do anything about. Hell for years I remember people challenging me to duels and then complaining that I was a scrub for using cooldowns like the pally bubble. Lay on Hands just has a long cooldown because it and the other 30+ min cooldowns back in the day were centered around their PvE function. Healing back in the day used to be several healers healing a single tank and lay on hands just happened to be one of those amazing "oh shit buttons" that blizz didn't want to have up every fight because it would trivialize things.

Yeah well I'm Terran so it's all good.

Also, there is 'Esportsmanship'. As long as you don't be a douche or an ass it's showing 'Sportsmanship' GG is the best way to express this.
