I was playing Alan Wake and the cabin in game was shaking violently from an unseen source driving itself again and again against it's sides laughing maniaclly as it went. Just as I thought that the house couldn't hold out any longer and right as the music crescendoed for one last blow that would shatter my flimsy refuge the power went out. Needless to say, after that I keep a flashlight next to my xbox, and from what i've seen i'm not the only one to experience this.

This is really silly looking back on it, but at the time it was horrifying.

I was playing Minecraft while listening to music one night, at about 2 in the morning. I was alone on my server, trying to fix the underwater tunnel my roller coaster went through. I got out to check on how it was going, and went to go fix something on the first hill, when suddenly this song starts up.

Now, I'm a relatively new Ramones fan, and this was the only song on the album that I hadn't listened to yet. I didn't recognize the drums, and at first I thought it was something in the game. Then, when the chanting started, I nearly shit bricks. The strangeness of the intro of the song, combined with the total isolation of the game and the paranoia of it being the middle of the night, it just made the perfect, horrifying combination.

I had stumbled into the Dunwich building in Fallout 3. My friend was playing with me. It was pretty early in the game so all I had was a couple of crappy guns and a Combat Shotgun with a few shells.

Madness ensued. I swear to God those Ghoul shrieks and hisses have never sounded so scary. This was not aided when my equally-terrified friend decided it would be an absolutely stellar idea to suddenly shove me and scream loudly.

You can imagine my reaction, I'm sure.

I don't really play horror games but one thing that is vaguely relevant is when playing 'Jack and Daxter'. I was quite young and at a bit of the game where I was in a town floating on water and then my water vehicle exploded because I crashed. While swimming to the shore a shark attacked me from below and it freaked me out. I had to look away.

I've never been comfortable with deep water, especially in video games. It actually scares me at times, the idea of creatures coming out and attacking me in the dark.

I once couldn't complete a part of Metal Gear Solid 3 because had to swim through water and I knew there were crocodiles in the game. Had to get my brother to do it.
