The basic question is: What do you think of all the recent actions of hackers and those who call themselves Anonymous? Please just pick 1 of the 3 choices and then elaborate in the comments.

Edit: I am referring more to the people who have been attacking PSN and other companies, while also stealing the information of the hundreds upon thousands of people who are simply consumers or unrelated. This also includes people like Anonymous who justify their own actions with their own opinions.

Which kind of hackers are you referring to? People who, say, mod their gamertag? Or people like the ones that f*cked up PSN?

When you read the OP, he specifically says Anonymous.

I'm somewhat neutral on them and haven't formed a conclusive opinion to be honest. They've done some good things (like the whole Scientology ordeal). The stuff with Deus Ex hacking just makes me dislike them. In other words, I'm quite conflicted.

Sometimes they do things that are good, but I can't ignore all the bad stuff they've done either.

Also: I enjoy neutrality here, cause their actions are too random to actively support them

Anon does whatever the hell it wants, generally for 'teh lulz'. Attempting to classify them is to not understand them at the basest level, there is no overarching plan, there is no great common goal, these are the guys that, in school would have kicked the bully's ass and then jacked your lunch money themselves. Yes, they tend to fight for the freedom of speech and all of that shit, but they also love mass spamming youtube with porn videos labeled with tags that kids would search for.

More or less the people who took down PSN or have started targeting other websites/companies (Which is affecting the consumers more then anything).

i voted support them because while i don't actively support them i find it interesting to see what they can do. i do not like when they do things like bring down psn and stuff but otherwise its pretty funny when they don't cause much harm.

What the group "annonomous" in general stands for is good, power to the people, freedom of speech to name a few. There problem is how they do it. The problem with having no identitys or leadership is that if any of there members go rouge there is nothing they can do about it.

The people doing all these things aren't the same groups or people or really connected. Anonymous doesn't have any positive or negative intentions, just doing what they want when they are bored. So if it happens to be fighting for rights, then I support that, if its just terrorizing innocent people I don't.

Whoever hacked PSN and stole data doesn't really fit with the typical MO of people operating under "Anonymous", whoever did it for whatever reasons I don't support. But in the end, all you have to do to be part of Anonymous is operate anonymously and claim connection to them.

I think they have a purpose and a cause, one which at most times I would support. So, yeah, i would support.

I hit 'neutral' though...i changed my mind right after i voted :/

By "hackers" I assume you're referring to the douchebags that hacked the PSN and the like, not the guys who, the worst thing they might do is torrent computer software and nuke the computer of someone who really pisses them off.
In which case, I despise what their doing. I don't know what they think they're doing, but it sure as hell ain't helping.

I don't really care about 'em. Also, they can technically qualify for all three, given the nature and the splintering of the group.

I say the evil outweighs the good, especially if the psn thing was anon.
I play 360 and am ready to call swat to stop that from happening.
Really, that would suck if it happened to 360,worse because psn is only just recovering.

It all depends on what they are doing. If they are just being dicks to other people i.e. making fun of people on facebook, and raiding web sites (posting porn, maybe some playful hacking), I'm pretty neutral, if they're fighting for a noble cause I approve of their actions, however once they start actually doing malicious things, things that hurt people on a large scale, like stealing credit cards and bringing down PSN, I can't support their actions.

In general I'm in favour of any akephalous, emergent organisations, especially when they demonstrate their power over corporations or government. It demonstrates that intellect is more powerful than monopoly or force, and no I don't particularly care about "innocent victims" of the PSN attack if the inconvenience is this minor.
That said, it seems the more press attention Anonymous gets, the less value it has to contribute.
