I think maybe adding it in differently. Instead of something that simply requires you to dig through your inventory and "eat" and "drink" every X number of hours, perhaps something like a "morale" stat. Going extended periods of time ignoring it just imparts some minor, non-crippling penalty. Get fixed up by actually SITTING DOWN in a Tavern or what have you to eat, drink, play music or listen to it (this would also require music played by NPC's to be at least somewhat worth listening to). High morale offers some kind of a small, non-critical buff. This would reward players for actually role-playing.

There are very few games that would lend themselves well to players forgetting questing, grinding, loot hunting, and all the other stuff that just advance the game or character in favor of letting you just immerse yourself in the world and act more like a real person in the game. I really think Bethesda could pull it off well if they tried it.
TES V should have music as skill and allow you to earn a living as bard! Now all I want is a traveling bard who plays heavy metal on a lute.

Yes, but obviously altered to be more TES friendly.
Heres a few ideas:

Disabled fast travvle.
No compass.
No Crosshair.
An ingame minute is 6seconds in stead of 1
Slightly quicker weapon degrading.
Slower Health/Fatigue Regen. Magicka nolonger regens on its own, must sleep or use potions.
Magic has slightly higher cost. With a chance to fail.
Gold/good loot/potions are harder to find.
Potions act instantly but are very rare, food and ingredents takes ingame 2 hours before you feel the effects.
Trainers cost more.
Gold has mass. =P

You may notice most of my ideas would make the game more like Morrowind.
Not so sure on weapon degrading I mean just making my sword break and then force me to hit with repair hammar to fix seems stupid. But instead if you had to say maintain the sharpness of the blade with a wetstome for example then yes that would be great.

Well, if Bethesda doesn't do this...there will be player made mods that do roughly the same thing. There are mods that require sleep/food/drink in Oblivion. Only for PC though.

They'd really have to change things a lot to make it work. Fallout: New Vegas is a post apocalyptic scenario set in a desert, so water and food are understandably uncommon. TES, on the other hand, is set in a world where wild foods and water are fairly plentiful. They'll likely include alchemy in Skyrim, which will necessitate some basic things like bread and oranges being plentiful.

So, given that I feel it would be a trivial annoyance, I'd be opposed to even the option of Hardcore Mode in TES V.

Yeah that sounds better, I never did like the weapon breaking.
Becoming less powerful when not maintained sounds better.

As long as you don't have to eat/sleep when you're a vampire/werewolf, then I can see it being kind of fun.

As long as they make it an adjust-on-the-fly thing.

What I want to know is, who is the 1 person who doesn't play RPG's. Why vote?
make that 2 people now...

sigh I guess I should have expected people to actually use the joke option

Yeah, hardcore mode is a good idea. As long as it's not like in New Vegas.. Could barely call it "hardcore".. Was easy as taking a piss.

I played hardcore in NV, and it felt pretty damn easy, as long as I had water and food I was fine, it didn't add too much to the gameplay for me, so I'd say I don't need a hardcore mode in Skyrim, and if there is one, unless it does something that interests me, I probably won't use it.

No, not that I'd be buying the game anyway. Hardcore mode in NV seemed like a failed attempt to make the game more like STALKER.

Wow. It amazes me how people say no to alternatives, when infact you loose nothing even if you don't like the mode since its OPTIONAL!

It amazes me how people can make a thread asking whether someone would like to see an optional feature and then pull out an argument of "why wouldn't it be in if it's optional" :)

And yes, I would like to see it in. If it was Oblivion, I'd say no cause Cyrrodill was a lush green land. However, Skyrim being a frozen wasteland for a large part, it could make sense. Really depends on what the landscape is like though. The reason it made sense in Fallout is not because "oh, cool, RP, you gotta drink/eat", it made sense because you had to survive in a scorched wasteland. Putting a mechanic in just because it's realistic sucks (GTA 4 oughtta have taught us that), putting a realistic mechanic in when it makes sense and is appropriate is fantastic.

Yes, I would like that option to be present in pretty much every open world game. I'd definitely like it to be implemented better than in New Vegas, it'd be nice if it represented a little bit more than numbers that had to be managed, like someone mentioned above, it'd be cool if you actually had to fill a water skin or cook meat over a campfire. New Vegas' was too easy imo as well, I felt like I could run nonstop for three days before I had to sleep or stop for food.

Yeah, I loved it in New Vegas. I was actually playing Oblivion today and I was thinking, "I'd like this more if ti had the hardcore mode."

And the great thing about it is that it's not mandatory, and it never should be. I like it, but if you don't you don't need to have it.
