So I've been watching the news, and the Texas governor and a bunch of right-wing extremists want to seceed from the union. Everyone there said the government was perfect, but the moment obama was elected, they claimed it was opressive, and is going to collapse. Personally, I think they're just crybabies because mccain didn't win.
If they do, the US should set up a blockade to stop exports and imports to/from texas. They'll come crawling back.
SO! Should they leave or stay? And please don't start obama vs mccain wars, this isn't about them

Didn't they start talking about this several months ago? It's a dumb thing the governor said about economic stimulus bill the federal government had planned, but they're not about to secede from the Union for something like that. How would that help them at all? Where would they get their money from then?

Secessionist didn't like bush just like they don't like McCain or Obama, they dislike the federal government. The gov. and right wing do not want to secede they want to declare(or clarify) states rights under the 10th? amendment

The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people

I really don't think that Texas is going to remove itself from the USA. It will be too much trouble in the long run and I think everyone knows that. Some people might want to leave but they aren't going to bother to pack their bags and actually get out.

Odd that patriotism has been thrown out the window though.

Eh, I don't really care. It could cause a change in gas prices, and cock things up in the economy.

But I'm from Canada. The only thing I worry about is Quebec attempting to separate.

I just don't see how they would survive without the federal government's help. I mean, sure, it's not perfect, but what happens when a hurricane inundates Galveston and they don't have enough resources to handle it? For all it's issues, the federal government is important to have. Whatever, if Texas wants to go, let 'em. I haven't got any ties to that state.

which state had a governor that wanted to seceed about a decade or two ago for pretty much the same reason. I think it was north or south carolina. I'm sure it was a republican senator too that was pissed about this and that and wanted to have his own little country or start a second civil war. I have to say dumb as hell if they even try doing it.

didnt they make it illegal to secede back in the 1860's?

The Republican Party should dissolve and form Jesusland with the seceded states.
The Libertarian and Socialist parties should become major contenders with the Democrats in place of the Republicans.
Funny since a lot of people worship obama as our second messiah.

What do you mean? I thought that Retro was in LA (I saw their offices!).

On topic, I don't see it happening. And I don't care.

Most states nowadays, Texas included, are way too dependent on federal funding to actually secede. I mean, Texas actually needed federal assistance in closing a budget gap they had like this year. It's all just pomp and rhetoric.
