Do they remember the last time that someone decided to leave the union?

It started the the most devistating war ever to grip North America, leaving over 600,000 dead.

They can go ahead and secede, but when half of the population leaves and the rest of the country is ready to go William "T" Sherman on their asses, I think that they'll want to reconsider.

I'd be glad at first if they did (second least favorite state, least favorite being Utah), but then other states would probably join in, and one of them could very well be my state of South Carolina (we're about as conservative and "southern" culturally as Texas).

They won't, though, and that above thing was a what-if. And thank gods, I don't want a second Civil War as that would lead to a mass rallying of Confederate flag waving rednecks (keep in mind I live in South Carolina, home of the Confederacy) and the plot of Barb Wire.

well, first of all. They can never secede because it was made illegal after the civil war
and the US will refuse to recognize them as a sovereign nation.

And they'll probably be the only state to secede so any rebellion will be quelled faster than pouring a gallon of water over a match. if not, there will probably be only one or two other states stupid enough to join.

America is trying to catch up to the rest of the 1st world nations (Scandinavia,France, Switzerland,Canada)and the Republican Party and religious fundamentards want to hold America back, and some want to regress it to the dark ages.
We shouldn't have to deal with Birthers,domestic terrorism, and religious stupidity (George Tiller, guys who shot up the churches and the guy in Pennsylvania who shot the cops).Texas is part of this.

The Libertarian and Socialist parties should become major contenders with the Democrats in place of the Republicans.
