1. America does not need to "catch up" -- Socialized medicine doesn't work. Socialized anything doesn't work.
On the contrary, Canada and Sweden seem to be doing pretty well in that regard. And to those who bring up the bureaucracy thing with universal healthcare, you already have a bureaucrat between you and your doctor, it's called insurance. And insurance companies sure as hell ration care; ever heard of pre-existing conditions?
That later thing wasn't because of you, just something I had to say.
2. People would still be stupid without religion. There is no way anyone can deny that.
Maybe so, but not as stupid. Varying degrees of stupid exist, you know.
3. Texas is part of religious stupidity? See point number two.
Again, varying degrees of stupidity, and "religious stupidity" is a greater degree. And yes, Texas is a part of that.
4. Actually, "right-off-the-cliff-into-the-dark-ages" Republicans are a very slim majority, just as those crazy environmentalists who are cutting the water to hundreds of thousands of people to protect a minnow are.
A slim portion maybe, but they have more power and are a bigger threat than the crazy environmentalists you mentioned. I can testify to that, I live in the state that elected Jim Demint, and there are more like him. And yes, republicans are closer to that extreme.
5. Jesusland? That's just completely ridiculous.
It's a major exaggeration, but if those southern states he's probably talking about succeeded, they probably would be very socially conservative, to say the least, without that pesky separation of church and state.
6. An unsubstantiated opinion.
Can't really argue with you there, but I'd say it's a better two-party system.
7. Scandinavia is a penninsula. Not a nation.
I think he means Scandinavian countries.
