edit: there are some misunderstanding that people have
1. this is NOT A BOYCOTT this is not trying to crush gamestop and crush it into the ground I am saying that should let a healthy competition grow between it and other game shops so that gamestop and it's used games don't damage the industry. I am just trying to get gamestop to see that we want to see the game industry grow as well as get good deals (sure they wont be as good as before but if it means more creativity in games I am willing to take that down side).
Yes, it is. A boycott is a movement to not shop at a place. Whether it crushes the target is irrelevant.

2. OK I will accept that game stop hasn't reached monopoly standards but it is getting pretty close to it from my knowledge.
This one has already been proven false. I mostly buy online myself. And, seriously....Walmart? Amazon?

3. I understand if you buy a used game once in a while like it's old and you can't find a new version or you don't have the money that's reasonable but instead of making gamestop think wow I get more then 60% of my profit from used games lets continuous selling them they think wow that other game shop is starting to grow quite big lets try and come up with good deals to get costumers to come back to us.
What if the game isn't worth it? If I had to pay $60 for Aliens vs. Predator, I wouldn't buy it. My game collection would probably be 1/5 the size it is now if I had to always buy new because, frankly, most games aren't worth the 60 dollar entry fee (and, with DLC, that price tag is moving upwards].
In fact, one of his arguments is that, with Gamestop, we can essentially "try before we buy" because people keep returning it so quickly. Well, where's the problem with that? That says more about the lasting appeal of the game than it does about Gamespot's policy. I gamefly to see if the game is worth buying much less buying at a full price. Why should I make the blind faith leap when quite a bit of the industry, including the indie games, are crap?
His equation is also one-sided. He complains a lot about the effects of the economy on the industry. Well, guess what? Everyone is hurting. Increasingly, the choice isn't "buy used or new". It's "buy used or don't".
Also, on a related note, he talks about niche titles and says that, if you must, wait a few weeks to buy them somewhere else rather than buy them from Gamestop. Well, that's just great. We'll send the message that niche titles aren't welcome at this party. Does anyone really think that, if these niche titles aren't selling at Gamestop, mom and pop stores will fall all over themselves to get the niche title?
Also, on the subject of new vs. used, another industry that recently had some hard times was the American auto industry. Has that inspired you to buy American? More importantly, has it inspired you to buy new vs. used? No? Then why do you think that the video game industry should be any different?

Yes, you do.

in fact without them I wouldn't have been able to get interested in games but I see that they are damaging the gaming industry and I want to continue seeing the game industry develop so I don't want it to get damaged.
Well, given the move toward download-only (which is going to be a far more damaging move than anything Gamestop is doing), soon you'll live in a world where paying full price won't be an option. We'll see how well this goes over then.
In essence, it sounds like Moviebob had a falling out with Gamestop and they've now temporarily replaced the Bible/Christianity as something for him to harp on. If he's really this concerned, why not tackle piracy? Oh yeah. Piracy has become semi-acceptable and attacking individuals isn't as easy as attacking a corporation.
Bottom line: Buy from Gamestop. Don't buy from Gamestop. Perhaps you and Moviebob will succeed in your little revolution and you will have not only cost the customers an option to buy from, poorer gamers the ability to buy games and Gamestop employees their jobs, you will have guaranteed that the gaming industry will ultimately have fewer sales due to having fewer stores to sell them from.
............
Yeah. I see where this would do nothing but help the industry.
