Arguably the two biggest films of the year, Avengers made a lot of money, so obviously it did well. I saw it, it was alright I guess. Not something I'd watch twice in cinema though.

Anyway, which film do you think you will like more, and which film will do better, money and sales wise?

My opinion is 100% correct, and what I say will end any potential arguments in this thread. Dark Knight rises will be better. Now please don't congratulate me on this, it's just a part of my job

Dark Knight Rises will have to be better than the Dark Knight, to even come close to beating how awesome I thought the Avengers was.

I found the Avengers to be overblown and over-the-top. It wass fun to watch, sure, and you can't beat Tony Stark/C.A wittiness, but I prefer semi-realistic superhero movies such as TDK.

The problem with the Avengers, for me, was that the destruction and heroics eventually got to such a level that I felt overwhelmed by the relentless assault on my senses. The number of explosions made all of Micheal Bay's films look like The Shawshank Redemption.

I'm not saying it was a bad film, because it wasn't bad by any measure. "It's not you, it's me". That is the issue. I don't personally enjoy films like that anyway, so for the Avengers to be an enjoyable experience is quite a feat in itself - proving it is a great film. Just not a great film to me.

Nolan's Batman films have been amazing, incredible yet still grounded in reality - and an immensely enjoyable, riveting and sometimes shocking experience. That is the reason why, whether Rises is as good as TDK, it will be better than the Avengers for me.

Considering we still have about a month before Dark Knight Rises is released, I can't really give an opinion on that movie. Luckily, I have a strong bias against Nolan's Batman movies. I could only watch Batman Begins once and if it wasn't for Joker, I wouldn't have cared for Dark Knight. I'll give Rises a chance of course but so far I'm unimpressed by the ads. Admittedly, the Football Stadium thing looked cool.

The Hobbit is going to kick both of their arses.

That said, I expect TDKR will do better in terms of financial success.

Seconded.

Likewise, I think the Avengers is being a little overhyped. It's a fun and great action blockbuster, but it simply isn't trying to be more than that. It wasn't a particularly smart film, it didn't make an attempt to tackle any deeper or mature issues. It was a relatively family friendly super hero movie. I liked the movie, but my tastes are much more oriented in the Darker side of things.

So yeah, I'm hoping for the Dark Knight Rises to be good. But I'm actually not to hyped for it. Excited, but not hyped. I just can't see any way that it's going to top the Dark Knight.

But if it does...

What a weird thread. The Dark Knight Rises hasn't come out yet and I can't like/dislike a movie I haven't seen. It's asking someone if they think 2015 was a great year.

If it makes alot of money; cool and if not; whatever.

Damnit Daystar, posting exactly what I was going to an' all..

OT: Yeah, Avengers pretty much blew all my expectations out of the water and then some.
It's gonna have to beat its predecessor before it has a shot on toppling the Avengers.
Also, Dark Knight Rises has no Chris Hemsworth, so it's already behind in my books.

I really liked The Avengers. In my Opinion The Dark Knight was still better.
Then again i don't know if dark knight rises will beat avengers, since i have the feeling it will not be as good ad The dark Knight. You just can't beat the Joker.

Batman obviusly, Batman Begins and The Dark knight we're such good movies, people is gonna assume that The Dark Knight Rises is gonna be equally good (Which it problaby will be) and see it. If Avengers was a sequal, it would problaby made a bit more money since people had seen the first one and liked it, but since it doesn't, Batman is gonna win.

Also this.

The Hobbit will be da bomb folks.
If they manage to get the hobbit out this year, that will probably make it the 2012 movie, I agree.

Choosing between avengers and batman: I did love Dark Knight, and I really really hope the latest installment can keep the trend of awesomeness going. Currently I'll have to go with Avengers though. It did something most movies don't manage for me. It made me laugh, while still being a serious movie. Most movies i've seen lately, like batman, tend to go "Oh it's grim, it's dark and it's dangerous". Avengers to my mind went "It's grim, dark, colourful, and Hulk SMASH!"
So ye, I'd say Avengers. But only just. Let's see what happens after the release.

I think The Dark Knight Rises has the edge here, simply because Batman has such tremendous star power. Avengers was a huge hit, but it didn't have anywhere near the level of hype TDKR has going for it. TDKR is undoubtedly going to have a stronger opening weekend, and if the movie turns out to be good, that trend may well continue.

As for whether or not it really will be a better movie, I'm honestly not sure. Nolan's put out two great Batman movies, so it isn't as though he's given me reason to doubt in his abilities, but the whole "flying Batmobile" thing has me a little worried. I'm starting to remember how hyped I was for Spider-Man 3 and how bad it turned out to be, y'know?
