I side with Classical and Metal. The new era of Symphonic Neoclassical Metal will reign supreme!
Or deafen us all. O_O;;
Alternative rock would probably fall under rock, so I'll side there!

A Blues-Jazz alliance will destroy you all, and we will be led by this man

I would side with the indie/hipsters. Together we would hide in an cafe, reciting poetry and listening to Neutral Milk Hotel and Sufjan Stevens on endless repeat. Forever.

Edit: Also, we'd invite Tom Waits, but I'm not sure he'd be cool with that.
Best answer.

But I would like to put forward an alliance with old school alternative. (Sonic Youth, Pixies etc)

Shoegaze can come along too if the don't get in the way.

Electro.

Listen to Alive 2007 and report back to me. It is quite possibly the greatest artistic achievement humanity has ever created. Or perhaps rock + electro. Just listen to the album Human After All- plenty of synths and plenty of headbanging.

I wasn't sure whether to call Alice in Chains 'rock' or 'heavy metal'... I think they lean more toward the metal side.

Heavy metal FTW, I guess!

I would side with Rock (specifically Alternative) and metal.

We've been around since the fifties and have only grown stronger and stronger. Besides that, we have more of the new-age "founders" like Buddy Holly, Elvis Presely, The 80s hair bands, mega bands, grunge. We will kill with emotion, meaning, and style.

Heavy metal. Because we'd win. It's a genre that's larger than life and anyhow, I'd rather be on the side that has the battle axes, swords, hammers of war, and well, Eddie. Heavy metal would move the earth with its volume.

Umm, all of the above? I'm into the better qualities in any genre. I firmly believe there is a time and place for every genre to properly resonate, as long as you're open.

Heavy Metal is way more popular than I thought it would be but I prefer normal rock the closest I get to Heavy Metal would have to be Rage Against the Machine though I don't consider them even close to Metal.
