Yeah, but FireFly > SG & BSG.

At least in terms of a Sci-Fi Show.
Maybe not the size of the universe though..

The universe that the Takeshi Kovacs trilogy is set in. I love it, I really home someone makes a game based in the universe using the concept of 'sleeving'. Richard Morgan is currently working with CryTek on Crysis 2, hopefully he'll enjoy it and make an original game afterwards.

Star Wreck was a good movie and being based on many aforementioned series I chose other option.

Movie/TV Sci-Fi is pretty meh. It's all about space. That's it. It doesn't seek to explore truly new or controversial concepts like sci-fi books do (likely because TV/Films are hugely expensive things and books are not, so investors in films/TV don't like anything that could reduce mass-market appeal whilst books can survive even with a niche audience).

Not to say they're not enjoyable. I like Firefly and Star Wars, but they aren't half as bad-ass as the universes presented in many sci-fi books.

And I'd like to add the Revelation Space universe from the Alastair Reynolds book series.

Epic hard scifi universe that's amazingly well put together. The divergent human race and alien technology and cultures are inticately detailed. On top of that, sweeping space opera narrative.
Fuck yeah, Revelation Space. I love how humanity is so divergent in RS that they can be aliens to themselves. To say nothing of how badass some of the technology is. I love how RS' equivalent of power armor is essentially a man-sized space craft.

I probably like the Firefly universe best. But the Star wars, Star trek and Warhammer 40k universes are more developed.

Torn between the Warhammer 40K universe, which is just so damn bleak, and the Star Wars universe but only during KOTOR 2 times when there were damn-all Sith or Jedi around.

I will slap anyone who votes Star Trek. It's a bunch of rubber-foreheaded freaks spewing technobable at each other.

Firefly, but, they actually don't got into any great detail about it beyond some key settings and planets, which is what I like about it I suppose, leaves a lot up to my imagination.

Outside of TV/Film though, I really love the Homeworld universe. Sure, it's a sack of crap for most of the games, and by that I mean, it's a warzone, however, as fully realised sci-fi settings go it's awesome. It's just a shame we won't be seeing more of it.

None. Hardly anything in the Movies/Series department really qualifies as Sci-Fi. If I want actual Sci-Fi, I'll go read a book.

However, if I want to see flashy things fly around in space, I guess any number of them will do, and I honestly can't say that one stands out from the others.

I can't say I have a favourite! Its like trying to decide which of your kids you love the most.

About the only ones I don't like are the ones with constant and serious inconstancies in their plots - I mean, you can't be perfect all of the time, but shody work is shody work - I'm looking at you Star Wars and Star Trek.

Firefly for the purposes of film/tv. However I agree with everyone else who would prefer something from books. Iain M Bainks is a highlight, but what about Legacy/Dragons of Herot (Niven, Pournelle and Barnes), the Uplift Wars (David Brin) or Ender's Game (Orson Scott Card)?

Ender's Game.

If you haven't read it, do yourself a favor and check it out. It's quite amazing.

Orson Scott Card also wrote a whole series based on Ender's Game as well. I think there are 10 books in total. But, I would HIGHLY recommend Endre's Game and Ender's Shadow at the very least.
