You don't have to put "IN YOUR OPINION", no matter what anyone says it's always an opinion. Even if I said it was fact, it's still a damn opinion.

OT, Akuma but you don't have him there so this thread is instant fail and I'm not voting. Akuma is always the best.
Not true, my mate just goes on what the rankings are. So not really opinion is it.
What are you talking about? Are you saying your friend believes the best character is by ranks?

Dhalsim is my favorite, always have been. He's so cool, and his arms are hilarious.

Lately, I've been dabbling with Rose. All her attacks are so sweet to pull off. There's nothing like catching a poor sap in the air with a soul throw, or reflecting a fireball right back in your opponents face. And her ultra is so easy to pull off, just wait for the opponent to make any unsafe move or jump in, and since many are unfamiliar with the match up, it happens often.

Alright, it's Sagat or Akuma and the more you play them, the more you see it. I'll start with the obvious one
Sagat:
Fireballs: This is obvious his Tiger shots are very good, they travel fast and they are the most damaging normal fireballs (not countin EX/Akuma's red fireball) he can fire them high and low to catch you if you jump or if you try to go under them and the ex fireball will knock you back halfway across the screen to let him reset the fireball game. As far as fireballs go he's just too good.
Damage: again this is obvious a simple Tiger uppercut, FADC, F.HK, Ultra does 622 damage! That's well over half the average characters health and for Seth and Akuma they are almost dead, his Cr.fierce does 130 and if you get counter hit you can link uppercut or without counter hit a super. The only characters that hit harder are honda and Gief, and they have to work to get in for their damage, as Sagat people are happy to stay close. Add all this to a fast and damaging overhead he's amazingly good.
Anti-airs: His tiger uppercut, standing HK and and f.hk make him almost impossible to jump in on without a deathwish, add that to his fireball game he is one of the best zoning characters in the game.
Health: He's got an above average health bar and has above average stun, so even when you get in on him, you still have a lot of work still to do.
His only real drawback is lack of footsies, but all you need is one kara-uppercut and dash back then they are where you want them again.

Akuma:
Footsies: His footsies are insanely good, he has an amazing cr.mk which can be cancelled into a fireball possibly one of the best footsie tools in SFIV, his walk speed is decent allowing him to walk in and grab you without making it too obvious and easy to tech, You can't pin him into a corner and apply pressure as you either have to step back to punish a teleport or let him escape with it, letting him out of some situations which are deadly for other characters; don't forget about his air fireballs, they maintain pressure and keep you locked down even while he advances or retreats makes his zoning just to notch.
Damage/Stun: Too many people sleep on Akuma here his bread and butter combo does almost 500 damage and 620 stun, more than Zangief's stun headbut. His ultra while hard to hit does 600 damage making it one of the most powerful in the game and making you get scared when you are gambling against an Akuma with ultra.
Fireballs: His regular fireballs are nothing special, they are slightly slower than Ryu's but that's not where his strength lies, his red fireball hits you 3 times making it impossible to focus attack, it will eat an EX fireball and tag you with 150 damage. There's a risk because of the long recovery but its worth it from full screen where it's safe.
Mixups: This is where Akuma shines through, he can mix you up with cross up tatsus making it hard to guess where to block and eating 200 damage and a knockdown for guessing wrong he can reset you after a light tatsu to reset the damage scaling on a combo and get stupid damage in a short time. He can throw an air fireball on one side of you and chose which side to land on, making you guess which way to block the fireball and eating a fat combo if you guess wrong.
His only weakness is his health, even that isn't a huge drawback as he can still take beating, compared to Seth.

I only played Street fighter 2 and I suck at it. I can only manage a Hadouken.

I always wanted to try Fei Long after seeing this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_5jCGQzEXs

Honestly, I just want to play a Bruce Lee clone.

sagat is a better ryu imo, hes the pro version, i've never had more trouble than any other character in beating than him, every other person, even bison, i can destroy, i have to be super patient with sagat, its annoying as fuck, all his combos seem to be one step ahead of ryu's on the capabilities

Chun-li. I think most of the official tournaments are won with ken though. Chun-li is second if I recall. Those were stats for pre-SFIV though.

I do apologise, i just took the high tie characters.
Where's Rufus then? isn't he really high tier? last time i checked he was 3rd below Ryu and Sagat.

My favorite is Abel. It's very satisfying to hit a enemy with a tornado throw. He's hard to play but worth it.

Also for all you Abel players out there.

crouching hard punch -> light roll -> crouching hard punch -> light roll -> tornado throw

It's sorta hard to do, but it can do around 400 damage (Ryu, for example, has 1000 health)

And you don't see how that's his opinion?

Playing SF at the moment, hes arguing with me that Zangief is miles better than Ryu just because he is a higher tier character in pro rankings, even though i cannot play Zangief at all. I think in my opinion that Ryu is a much better character! My opinion though.

What is your best character in SFIV?

EDIT* Sorry couldn't fit all characters in the poll, so just took the higher ranking characters on the pro rink. If you disagree leave a post.
Zangief is better in a way because he is fairly overpowered well against computer he is. Obviously unless your good with him any player worth their salt can beat you but everyone uses his(can't remember name) Lariat Punch I think the one where he spins around. This is because it has high priority and is quick. Also a lof of his moves have way too high priority. Although anyone with Cammy should be easily able to school his ass. That is why he is considered so strong in SFIV.

OT: I'm between Ryu and Cammy I think I'll go with Ryu as I use him more. Although I'm not that good at the game. I can get by on the setting above normal in Arcade but thats about it. Survival and Time Attacks get so damn hard!!!(that and I'm crap SC[& SB] and Tekken are my better fighting games)

where the hell is abel?

Abel is my personal favorite at the moment in street fighter. he's a farcry from people who enjoyed alex from street fighter 3. that cresent kick and barrel roll has saved me countless times from pety hadoken/shoryuken spammers.
