I found a t-shirt on the web saying "the cake is a lie". my question to you is:

do you think its a bit too geeky to wear that t-shirt?

ARGH!!! Shut up about it! Most the people who talk about this haven't even completed Portal!

It's so annoying, yes it was quite funny when you played through, the writing scrawled on the wall told you that the cake is a lie. In the end you found that the promise of cake was false and you were to be burned in a furnace.

Also, shut up about the companion cube. People didn't actually care about the companion cube they just naturally don't want to follow orders.

Just say no, it's not too geeky, but everyone who has heard of it by now wishes they hadn't. Instead, get some fresher cake [ttp://shirt.woot.com/friends.aspx?k=4113]. It's still fairly geeky with an added +1 to funny, and not quite the same line everyone has heard so many times they want to hit you on sight. Probably cheaper too

A real geek (i.e. ME!) will tell you that the cake itself is not a lie, it is the PROMISE of cake that is a lie...

It's not too old, but too tired. Just give it a rest and it'll be good as new; I don't hear Shakespeare or Monty Python material every single damn day. However, if you're going to quote something other than that one very tired line, be my guest =)

I think you should find the "geekiest" thing you can find and then wear it and dare someone to call you geeky. If they do, bust em in the lip... your geeky shirt has now been transformed into a cool shirt as follows:

"The cake is a lie" is the stalest Portal-related meme. You can do better. The game has lots of other bits that are just as funny and instantly recognizable but far less over-repeated.

It is pretty geeky, just like any other gaming reference or internet meme. However, like those, it's geeky in a good way. A lot like Coldplay have been billed as a 'geek chic' band, but they are still great (who honestly didn't buy Viva la Vida, or listen to a friend's copy?). Geeky can sometimes be good, and the cake is a great example of this. Even though it's a lie.

the joke is overdone, don't get me wrong, I love Portal, but it's annoying how so many people keep saying that line when they havn't even played the game...and the other thing I have to say about the game, I didn't get into the whole, oh my god, the Companion Cube is my favorite thing ever...no, GLaDOS is my favorite thing in the game....and I can't wait until Portal 2
