Firstly, I was promised a Poll. I am dissappointed.

OT: It's down to you. If you like the look of any games coming out soon then wait and buy them. If not then buy some cheap/old games. Nothing much more to add than that.

Depends. On the PC it is definitely worthwhile to get games when they're older and also some indie stuff.

Watch out for special offers on Steam and for the inevitable price drops.

Try low budget games like The misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom. There's great original gameplay with decent production values if you know where to look.

The first Mafia of course.
Oh and you might look on sites like abandonia.com if you don#t mind the smell of old bones.

Your subject line says poll, but... it was false advertising. :(

The "cheaper" games that come in the form of downloadables on PSN and XBLA are often games that use principles or concepts of games that have once been successful. We see many 2D games, and very few full 3D games (or 3D modle games done in 2D planes), or flashy space shooters (Super Stardust HD), or party games turned digital (Catan). They're not set to the same standards of the full price 60 dollar games we get at stores, so I think they're more free to do what they want, or at least don't get hung up on all the crap that makes full price games hit or miss.

(I don't know if what I'm saying is making any sense. I just pulled an all nighter, and I can't go to bed yet.)

PEOPLE! Stop putting "Poll" You are not putting a poll in so just stop. Second no, cheaper games often have a lack of money which means less cool stuff.

ive found that some free MMO's have been alright and kept me busy sometimes. There pretty cheap!

as for cheap games... wait for a game to be built up and OMG ITS DA BEST... let it get released... wait 2 months max... in the bargin bin for cheap... can buy for cheap :)

does that count?

Games that are fun in their own right tend to stay fun. Yes, some games date, but they don't all date horribly.

I tend to wait for games to be discounted before I buy, and I watch the Steam site for good deals on games.

I remember the last splurge of big titles - I ended up not buying as I had other games, and then buying them later. No doubt when the next splurge come out I'll be still busy, and will wait for the inevitable price drop.

Some games are cheap for a reason - I heartily recommend researching a game and seeing if it's the kind of thing that you'd like.

Most often, a game is cheap because it hasn't sold well. if it hasn't sold well, often, it's not very good. Good games do tend to sell well, though so does shit. You'd have to look very hard to find cheap games that end up being a better choice than the pricier brethren.

But seriously, did so many people buy Ico? I mean, it's almost a hundred bucks on Amazon! The hell is that?

Just play league of legends. It's free and it will buy you at least a few weeks of entertainment (for nothing).

I quite liked Wet and that was pretty cheap for today's standards.
Lots of people don't like it so it might not be for you, but it's good to bring out when you get that sudden urge to go murder some chaps via there goolies.
An urge I should probably get psychiatric help about...

I know your new but when you put in a poll it will say poll for you. Don't type Poll in the title otherwise you will have grouchy people liek me asking for them :)

Cheap games do not make fun games however if you find a game that is cheap and it is fun you will feel like you got more for your money and therefore may find it more fun. An example of this for me would have to be Plants VS zombies. however what I find fun may not be the same for anyon else. What makes games fun is subjective.

If they're still relatively new, that's often true (with occasional exceptions like Beyond Good and Evil, which almost immediately got dropped to $20 because no one bought it because no one had heard of it because they didn't bother promoting/advertising it). A year or two after they come out, though, even most good games are pretty cheap (also with some exceptions: Blizzard games seem to take forever to go down in price, and same with a lot of Nintendo's stuff). I get a ton of good stuff 12-24 months after release for less than half the release price, sometimes even a quarter or lower.

I bought a few games called 'I MAED A GAM3 W1TH Z0MB1ES 1N IT!!1' and 'Zombie House' or something similar to that on XBLA.
It costed like £1.50, and they are better than 99.99% of games.

Price, graphics, special engines, great fmv, hype and the reviews of your average joe (and 99.9% of 'professional' critics) dont mean a fucking thing.

MW2 singleplayer was fun for a while, but got shit, the multiplayer has been shit always.
Fable 2 (yes i fell for the molyneux talk) was shit.
Fable 3 will be shit (not that i trust molyneux anymore but i will buy it anyways because im a sucker for RPG's and all must be played).
Halo is shit.
Halo reach will be shit.
Bioshock was shit.
Bioshock 2 was shit.
Fallout3 was shit.
Fallout3 new vegas will be shit.

The list goes on, but what im trying to say is stop settling for anything less than brilliant. When you buy into these shit publishings, its funds terrorism. Both types. Al Qaeda, and the notion that these producers can keep fobbing shit remakes and hyped games off to the public and get away with it.
Anything less than brilliant is just laziness or budget cutting on behalf of the developers when it comes to simple things like silly gun design (cs:s + bioshocks fat gun and arm syndrome - WHY!?) or the removal of an excellent co'op/multiplayer system in the sequels (why?!) or fucking boring map design or running backwards and forwards to talk to two people 30 feet from eachother or replicated scenarios you go through the motions of just to progress through the stupid fucking game (yes, im looking at you Assassins Creed). Did these designers really think these things were a good idea?

Sure, some games reach their peak, and they arent great, thats just a weak team behind it. But when you encounter fundemental flaws like the ones mentioned above (and many more) you just have to step back and wonder, 'why?'
Did they notice it and just couldnt be bothered fixing it? Did they think it was a good idea in the first place!? (fucking fat guns, pff) Or will they just release it in paid DLC.

Paid DLC is another topic altogether. Also one that will ruin gaming.

Congratulations if your reading this. This is the end now.

(i like the word shit.)
