Certainly not. Unless you are a Playstation Plus subscriber, you are owed nothing.

You should receive compensation if you lost something.

Being that the jury is out on whether or not something was taken it seems a bit premature to be asking such questions.

I expect Sony will provide us each with a free 25 cents to spend at the Playstation Store (offer valid until 26 April 2011).

It's hard to say we should be compensated. We lost some personal information, but nothing of specific monetary value was lost. Besides, that would also force them to compensate millions of people on a service that's free to begin with anyway.

If this happened on XBL, I'd assume they would give everyone the rest of the year free or something, but the PSN is free already.

It'd be like if someone ever hacked The Escapist and stole our information. The Escapist is a free service (barring the Publisher's Club), so what could they ever do to compensate us?

Also I'd like to note that Sony said that credit card information was not stolen so no, I'm pretty sure they didn't steal any money.

Compensation for what?

What did you lose?
Possibly money and identity.
Address, password, postcode, email, account details, card details.

Nothing important really, just an entire on-line identity and access to my bank account.

Don't think that we'll get much in the way of compensation though, not entirely sure we're due any. Just gonna cost Sony a lot of customer loyalty.

Well, your name and address, maybe. I know they're not asking for your social security numbah.

Sounds to me like classic gamers wanting a free handout.

Not consumers exactly, but some studios who were making games for the PSN are genuinely losing money from this, sure hope Sony does something to support them.

Isn't compensation for monetary loss due to a credit card the credit card company's responsibility?

Fawcks: While I don't think it's something we're entitled to, I think it would be a good guesture. As someone who has potentially lost my CC details and address details as well as other identifiable information I think they need to do something to appease the angry masses. Some (Sony created) DLC would be a good way to do that. Doesn't cost anyone anything and gives a good impression and hopefully some brings good feeling back to Sony after all the frustration.

I think the fact that they took a week to anounce that they had been hacked is what has caused the most frustration. I could have changed my passwords a week ago if I'd known that my passwords/emails were potnetially at risk. Especially as they've now warned of phishing scams...

Only if there is monetary damage as a direct result.

Not being able to buy crap off the PSN doesn't really count.

They don't owe their customers anything other than an apology, really. I mean not that I'm happy about it or support them for it but just from a legal standpoint. They are also under investigation for violation of privacy concerns and such so perhaps they will owe the government a lot of cash... but I doubt we'll see anything. Unless perhaps that class action lawsuit works out.

Well in the agreement on signing to the PSN I'm fairly sure it says Sony will not give the details to any other party.

Not that its entirely Sony's fault but they have failed on this so I think some form of compensation would be a nice gesture.

Though that one's hard to say for sure, typical federal legislations on that are pretty clear in saying that the card holder isn't liable for a cent of any false charges if info is compromised. (If your card is stolen *technically* you're liable for $50, but most card carriers wave that as well usually).

But A) Sony has stated that there's no evidence that Card info has been compromised (sensitive info like that is supposed to be kept on a separate server from login & marketing info), and B) Even if it was compromised (again, it hasn't) technically no one should be able to make a charge without that three digit code on the back of your card, which Sony has been very specific in saying they wouldn't have gotten that (as that's not something that should be stored in the first place, for precisely this reason).

Agreed. Shit happens, I shouldn't always expect something in return when something goes wrong.

You'd be surprised in the right channels how much info you can dig up on someone with a name, even previous address and birth date. Plus if they can break Sony's security I'm fairly certain an e-mail address password isn't going to be difficult.

Sure we deserve some compensation!
1) Sony upgrading its security systems without charging the customers to make sure this doesn't happen again.
2) Sony implementing an emergency email protocol that will alert the customers in the event of a breach, also without charging us.
3) Shut up you entitled twats, you aren't paying, so no free games!

If someone uses my credi card for fraud I'm not liable for any of it per my bank. so no loss of money. My livelyhood doesnt depend on PSN being available. So Compensation? no, I would say that I dont have a case that would stand up in any court.

Do I think its annoying? yes, there is some DLC I've been wanting to download since this started. Do I whine or expect Sony to "compensate" me? no, I'll survive.
