Every character from tha show is so impossibly exaggerated that I still can't figure out if I loved or hated for that. One thing for sure though, after 26 episodes of that thing, I was BEAT like flattened mosquito beneath an anvil.
Funny thing, to me the series really started to look interesting after episode 8... you know what I'm talking about.

You just did the impossible, and saw the invisible and just stated that you know who dieing is where it got interesting. To be fair, that's true. ROW ROW FIGHT THE POWAH.

I had an awful time deciding between Sakata Gintoki and anyone from Baccano! but I had to go with Gin out of loyalty to the series.

Theres really too many to decide from, but I guess L, not cool, but weird, and thats fine by me.

But then again, how could you leave out people like Lelouch, C2, Yurippe, Taiga, Ryuuguu Rena.....ect?

Tuxedo Mask from Sailor Moon is the most badass anime character of all time. Here's why:

PREMISE 1: Tuxedo Mask always makes his entrance with the toss of a rose -- and it ALWAYS strikes fear into the heart of every opponent he faces.

PREMISE 2: Tuxedo Mask does battle in a tuxedo and top hat -- and NEVER has his sexuality questioned.

PREMISE 3: Tuxedo Mask never completely declares whether he is a "good guy" or a "bad guy," but always does whatever is good for himself -- and NEVER gets antagonized by the fandom for it.

PREMISE 4: Tuxedo Mask sword-fights with a cane -- and is NEVER accused of being Sailor Moon's pimp.

PREMISE 4b: According to Wikipedia (the source of all reliable information), "Although he is not a Senshi, Tuxedo Mask possesses a power item like theirs, a Sailor Crystal, which gives him guardianship over the planet Earth." This means Tuxedo Mask is not only Sailor Earth, but it makes him the only male Senshi -- yet he is NEVER called a Senshi Pimp.

PREMISE 5: Tuxedo Mask is brought back to life or reincarnated several times. The only other people known to have done or known to be capable of similar phenomena are Jesus Christ and Chuck Norris.

PREMISE 6: Tuxedo Mask fights in a cape. If you don't consider this badass, you seriously need to examine just what you are doing with your life.

PREMISE 7: Tuxedo Mask spawns a pink-haired daughter who turns evil when she can't handle his badass genes.

PREMISE 8: According to the information in Premise 4b, Tuxedo Mask is Sailor Earth -- yet there is absolutely zero fanart featuring him in a Sailor Suit.

Holo is awesome, true. But as much as I hate to say it, Tuxedo Mask does win in the badass department (though Holo comes pretty damn close in Wolf form).

I'd need at least 30 spots for that... and many of you would still complain about not having their personal faves and whatnot in said list. So please, just bear with me...

Alucard is the only Anime character I recognize as cool.

She is the best anime/manga character there is, full stop. Season 3 of the anime already please!!! >.<

In all seriousness, Holo makes me all fangirl. She's aloof, clever, charming, seductive (and knows it) ... more than once casually wrapping men around her little finger in elabourate mind games that both psychologically and intellectually dominate her male merchant counterparts.

And unlike every other fucking female character in anime/manga who seem to think the whole 'silent, demure, and blushy-blushy cutesyness is how females should be' ... or even worse, the "revolutionary" 'gruff, 16, unabashed douchebaggette' ... she's an actualized female role doing a profession that females were typically (in which the anime and manga covers extensively during one story arc) warded away from. Heaven forbid if a woman earnt gold, rather than credit, so that they could freely spend their excess wealth.

Wonderful character that not only refuses to be cookie-cut into a role, but also discovers means to make the system work for her and best her competition without resorting to excessive violence or criminal activity.

So that is why Holo is my all-time favourite anime character ....

Yuuko from Holic is a close second.

Um... from series I would go with Alucard, Haruhi Suzumiya, and Kenshin. If we include movies, then Ashitaka from Princess Mononoke or more likely, Calcifer from Howls moving Castle.

Soul - Soul Eater (he's the epitome of cool, none are cooler then he)
Edward Elric - Full Metal Alchemist 1st series (all time favorite anime)
Briareos Hecatonchires - Appleseed (to mis-quote Yahtzee, "He is a tank that walks like a man"

Spike is also one of my favorites and I agree, Astro Boy doesn't get enough love.
