ok i just got Lupe Fiasco's latest album "LASERS"...i freaking love it...i really had to go through it to find a song i didn't...then i went to look at some reviews on and found that the reviews were "mixed"...with the mixed part more being on the negative...

then i looked up reviews on B.o.B's album which i thought was pretty good too but had the same kinda reviews..."mixed"...though more positive than Lupe's

i just want to know who reviews these albums?...are they in touch with what people like?...i mean when you go on Wikipedia you can see who they are and from where...but i mean really who are these people and who is their target audience...i may just be being an ass because i think Lupe and B.o.B are amazing and i'm not happy that their works are being slighted...

now this isn't whether you like Lupe or rap or whatever...but when it come to music (specifically) do you really care what the critics say about an album or song...

i sure as hell don't...

i personally don't care much as for what reviewers say, after all they're just people.
never heard of this "Lupe" guy but i went and had a look at that new album. what i heard was rather heavily sampled, and in my view almost to the point of plagiarism, and such could be a reason for the negative reviews. i am projecting quite a bit though so its all in the eye of the beholder, i suppose.

I read reviews, but only if I'm not certain about something.
BTW, ellipses are not commas.

OK, personal opinion mate.

I like Mozart, Immediate Music, X-Ray Dog and Vivaldi.

Both authors you named, I don't like them and never heard of them till a few days ago.

My point being, I very well don't care for them, however, many people like me who don't like them, also feel the urge to write bad reviews about them. Then we have the 'casual' reviews, who simply listen stuff and like what they liked, followed by fans, and then by audiophiles who compose math formulas as to if a music is 'correct' (yes there is a whole science for this, and most music is bad).

Conclusion? Be open-minded, not everyone likes what another person likes, and frankly, I'm pretty happy not many people listen of Spiritus Elektros while taking the Metro.

Heavens no. The modern music industry is retarded, or, more charitably, people have such widely varying tastes in music that any subjective interpretation of musical quality is bound to conflict with a great many people. Almost always myself, in my experience. I looked at that top 20 hits chart thing once. Blech. I do not think I can possibly rely on someone else's judgement when it comes to music.

There's a ton of music out there, and it's impossible to listen to it all. Some critics have alerted me to bands that have come to be some of my favorites. I don't always agree with them, nor should I expect to. But I have to acknowledge the fact that there are many bands I would have never heard of if not for critics.

However, I don't need critics to corroborate with my opinion of an album. If I listen to an album and love it, why should anyone else's opinion affect my enjoyment of it? There are some critics I follow because I respect their opinion and enjoy their writing. So, in a fit of curiosity, I may check to see what the think of an artist I've started to enjoy. It won't diminish my listening pleasure though.
