Does anyone else love these shows? When I was younger I watched them and didn't understand them but now that I am older I see these shows as an actual source of news. Of course, they are comedy first, but it is mostly news and politically fueled comedy. I'm just wondering if anyone else feels this way.

I consider it news as well, but it should not be your only source. Topics are not always chosen for their prevalence, but comedic value. And yes, I really like watching the Daily show and Colbert Report. I prefer Stewart though.

I enjoy the Daily Show, I like Colbert but sometimes his over the top persona can get a tiresome to me.
I think it's somewhat a source of news.

The Colbert Report I can relate to because Mr. Colbert is gamer.

He makes my nights.

I look at them like I look at wikipedia for facts. They might be a good place to get started knowing something.. but it requires more legitimate research

Well of course, as I said, they are "comedy first". But I'm glad I'm not the only one.

Their hilarious and you can learn a little something from them, but should they be your only source? Of course not, the same way NBC, CBS, CNN, Fox or the BBC shouldn't be your only source.

I prefer The Daily Show overall, but I enjoy both shows very much. I mean, they both trash Fox News almost nonstop, what's not to love?

They really are my main source of political news, though. I always take it with a grain of salt, since they don't always tell the full story, but I get the gist of it all.

They are legit news mediums, and the comedic angle they approach news from is an excellent alternative from the shlock other more 'reputable' sources provide. I did not vote 'somewhat', because when it comes to news, its all about how informed you yourself want to be. I can be satisfied with the information from Daily Show + Colbert Report on some days, and if I need to know more, there are other sources (just most likely wont be as funny).

Hilarious to watch, and are a somewhat decent source of news. But they should in no way be your ONLY source. That'd just be silly.

As for who I prefer, well either works for me. Been enjoying Colbert a bit more than Stewart lately though.

I love both, though The Daily Show slightly more. Even still, some of the rants on both are so funny, I won't care whether or not they're trashing a candidate I support.

I definitely could have put some better options for the vote... Sorry about that. As for the rest of your post, I understand what you are saying completely.

I used to watch it all the time when I was younger, but now I only catch it at midnight or later. Kinda sucks, because I still like the shows.

I much prefer the Colbert Report, which I don't consider news at all.

Yeah, I'm not entirely sure when it is on anymore to be honest. I just watch it the next day online.

I dont really like either of them. They would be funnier if they didnt put up their own opinions so often. They make themselves out to be moderates when anyone can see that thye are pretty liberally bias which puts off most conservative watchers like myself.

And dont like the people behind the shows either. Jon is a hypocrite, calling himself fair but he makes a policy of not booking conservative pundits except for religious leaders, high-profile news anchors and politicans but you'll never see Andrew Klavan or Josh Shapiro on his show. And Colbert is just a jerk. The last straw came for me last Ash Wendsday when he "gave his up Catholicism" for lent and WIPED OFF HIS ASHES! Thats just downright disrespectful I'd say.

Completely agree. I love watching both shows for their humor and often their pointing out of how ridiculous some of the things on the news can be at times. I grew up watching The Daily Show at dinner. And now that I'm older I still love to watch both of them, if anything just to give me a sort of overview of what some of the news of the day is.

It's humorous, but still in a way informative.
