I'm more of a "Normal" player, but sometimes I feel bad if I don't beat it on super-duper hard mode. How do you play your difficulty?

For me it's:

Easy: for rushing through the campaign and messing about
Normal: first play-through
Hard: not very often, as it's in between normal and super-hard
Impossible: to prove that I have skill (More like extra time on my hands)

Always Easy these days, I really only play online multiplayer in games, so if I'm playing the single player I don't want it to take up much time.

I go normal for the first play through.
Then ill go harder if i feel like it.

Im going through Metroid Prime:Trilogy on Veteran and Hypermode currently.
And its not much of a difference.
You just take more Damage and there are more Annoying enemys.

Normal, then venturing into hard. Only ever attempt trying the insane difficulties once I've got a drink in me.

I pretty much always start out on normal mode, and if it's worth a replay, then hard mode.

easy to normal, not that i can't hold my own one bit on harder modes, just dont care to, if its a shooter, there is no point in playing harder, ill just play online with friends, and if i want to play harder on rpg's im just essentially using more potions in the longrun, so not much of a difference.

Easy and Normal to get used to the game world and make proper strategies.

Hard- to challenge my skills and patience.

Survival Horror? Impossible.
First Person Shooter? Normal.
RTS? Easy/Normal.

Everything else is either normal or hard. You want to progress through the story at an acceptable rate, but if it's too easy then the experience is cheapened. OTOH rewatching a cutscene 15 times does not help.

Survival horros are just so much better on super hard difficulties, really makes enemies terrifying. Dead Space in particular went from generic-but-cool-themed 3rd person shooter to a gut-wrenching survival horror when the secret difficulty was unlocked. Great stuff.

Most of the time I start with easy when given the choice. I just like my first gaming experience to be pure fun. If I get frustrated at the second boss I may lose my motivation and don't finish it at all which would be a shame seeing as I paid good money for it.
If I still feel the story and gameplay are good I spice it up a little.

Am I the only one who enjoys Legendary on Halo? It's like an event for me, a huge challenge. Don't care about online, no difficulty(pun).

I always do a playthrough on Normal first in a game. I'll move up to harder stuff if I actually care to do another playthrough.

That. The only game I ever played above Hard was Devil May Cry 4.

I spent ages playing that damn game and finally..finally! beating Dante Must Die and Hell vs Hell mode.

It did not defeat me...which I was immensely proud of. (it was ridiculously hard people)

Depends on the game. In Mass Effect I play on easy because it just is annoying on higher difficulties. Essentially all that happens is any increase in enemy health and decrease in your damage ratio.

The games about the story and exploration anyway.

Survival Horror I always play on the highest difficulty possible to get the most out of it the first time through.

Other games I Generally just put it on normal or whatever stupid synonym the try and use instead (like Starbucks and their Venti Tall crap naming system. Dear Games: Stop being like Starbucks.)

Hardest difficulty for shooters/rhythm games, normal for everything else.

It also depends on achievements/trophies in some cases as well. I'll be damned if I'm going to try playing Dragon Age on hard with no reward for it, I had a hard enough time on normal.

Hard, because that's just how I roll.

You want to know why, well it's because Shiny said that I'm the best. If you get that reference then you are truly hardcore and deserve a firm handshake.

I think that shooters are starting to lose the need for campaign's difficulty, since all most people do on MW@ BFBC2 etc is online.
Seriously, I look online at Halo 3(Yes it's old I know) players and at least half of them haven't even beat it on easy.
