Ever since Dragon age 2 was released i have heard nothing but fans of Origins complain about it. I loved origins it is one of my favorite games, hell i even loved awakening!, and i also love Dragon age 2. I only complain about 3 things in this game, The fact your only in one city, Reused enviornments and the story isnt as good as Origins. I often hear people complain about the controls but all i heard for Origins was that the controls where utter s**t even though i liked them, and then when the 2nd one came out they were to easy to use. This is not true they are so much better (this is just my opinion though) and the mage class is fantastic unlike in Origins in which it was horrible and boring. I do prefer Origins beacause the world is bigger and the story is alot more epic but Dragon Age 2 is a great game that imo does not deserve the hate it gets. Its far from perfect but i really do think if the third one had a story as epic as Origins and the controls, graphics and companions like in 2, it would be the best of the 3. What do you think? do you hate it? like it? if so what are your reason and do you think this game does'nt deserve the hate it gets? or are you one of the haters.

So I played Dragon age 2 before Dragon Age Origins (yeah you can start throwing eggs now).

I how Dragon Age 2 was different - an actual sequel. How it focused more on the main character and how <s/he> changed, other than how the world changed with help of main character. I actually became emotionally attached to my character, while I can't really say so about my Elf Mage in Dragon Age Origins.

And yes, the caves and warehouses got repetitive, but at least Bioware was smart about it and used terrain to block off parts of caves or changed the route, so it did not feel same all the time, unlike, for example, caves in WoW (especially Vanilla).

I actually liked how different the two games are, I like sequels that way.

ADDED: and yes I enjoyed monsters spawning through battle. Otherwise all fights would have ended in 5 seconds because my group was AoE heavy (and me being a mage).

I like the game. It's far from perfect, but I enjoyed it about as much as Origins.

I think the hate got a bit out of control.

However, I can sort of see where people are coming from when they say it was a bad sequel.

I believe that it does deserve the hate not because it is a bad game(Which it is not) but is a disappointing game which is the worst kind of game. It had so much potential to be an all time classic but it was not. They were lazy when it came to the setting and the story. The people from Orlais have an accent because they are from a different place from Ferelden but everyone in the free marches look, sound and act just like the people of Ferelden despite it being repeatedly stated as somewhere completely different. Plus it annoyed me that on hard I can progress easily through the game with the first three spells or talents I learn. I never have to update my character past level 5. Despite all these nitpicks it is not bad it is about average for me but like I said earlier it is one of the worst kind of games. Disappointing.

I liked both, and I think the main hate extends from people expecting it to be just as much of an RPG as Origins was, and when it wasn't, they took a pretty good hack n slash RPG hybrid and graded it on a scale it didn't belong in.

There's not much to say on the matter that hasn't been said a billion times before, but let me just first state I disliked the game.

Firstly, I found the controls to be comprable to origins. I played both on the PC. I could see if you played DA:O on a console or elsewise with a controller that DA2 would control much better.

Secondly, the hate comes from what you've stated: One city, pretty lame story, reused environments and constant spawn encounters. This is where it just breaks down to subjectivity. For some people, myself included, these things were absolute deal breakers. For others, they'll be willing to either overlook them or they just don't bother them that much, and that's fine.

I don't think so. I've never played it and I have no intention of buying it, because it doesn't look like something I would enjoy. I liked DA:O, but almost all of the things DA2 changed were things I didn't want to be changed. Still, I'm not convinced it's as bad as people say. It's just something I don't think I'd like. You know, people overreact a lot.

That's not to say I wasn't annoyed when I heard what the game is like, I wanted more DA.

Same thing with Duke Nukem Forever. I don't think it deservers as much hate as it gets, but what can you do. People like to hate.

I've said this many times over, so I'll keep it short.

Dragon Age 2 was by no means a bad game. I saved my money, bought it and was very happy with my purchase. I played it three times through and I don't regret the time I spent playing it. I enjoyed it and it was a great game.

The reason why lots of people don't like the game is because Dragon Age 2 may have been a good game on it's own, but looking back at Dragon Age: Origins, Dragon Age 2 is a bad *sequel*. It didn't carry the same weight that Dragon Age: Origins did. I don't really consider Dragon Age 2 to be the sequel to DA:O, despite the title because it didn't feel the same. It felt like the universe was completely different.

I enjoyed Dragon Age 2, I'll easily play it again, but I'm still waiting for my sequel to Dragon Age: Origins. So, no, Dragon Age 2 doesn't deserve the hate it generated. It just deserved an outcry, nothing more. I'm sure BioWare would have listened to an outcry, let alone the angry mob that they received.

I think hate is a word that is too strong for this. I was deeply disappointed by DA2, and thought it was a game far below the usual standard of BioWare and most other AAA titles for that matter. I've personally been very vocal in my critique of DA2, and in a few cases I've also done violent things to hardware while playing it. ;-) I don't hate DA2 though, it's just a game and not worthy of the hate label. I get a bit annoyed when critics get dismissed as haters.

DA2 did not receive hate it received harsh critique, sometimes beyond what it deserved, but in many cases the critique was well deserved. In my opinion it was simply a game that was half-cooked and lacked polish in most areas. For a $10 indy title it would have been ok, but not as an AAA sequel to one of the best traditional PC RPGs since the BG series. I felt cheated pure and simple.

To comment specifically on the controls. I thought they were ok in DA:O, but almost unusuable in DA2. I think the specific platform may make a big difference here.

My Bioware obsessed friend put it like this:
DA:O: An improved version of KOTOR, an apology for Jade Empire.
DA:2: An improved version of Jade Empire.

i'm a big fan of the DA2
i got very annoyed at the reused environments but that's the only major bad thing i can remember of it
but there's a longer story

i played DAO rather unwillingly and over a year after the release
every time i'm not fully convinced of a game at first sight i do A LOT of research on it to evaluate if it is worth my time
naturally while researching it i was overwhelmed by the exclusively positive feedback to the game
i read and i read about the game and i did what i always tell me not to do
i said to myself "if so many people liked it it can't be that bad"
i stumbled in it with high expectations and they got slammed to the ground pretty quickly
i was presented with a highly uninteresting cast, a cut and paste generic wrpg fantasy story and only a minimum of freedom
and by freedom i mean freedom of progression and exploration
sure you could choose which path to walk and how to walk it but it doesn't matter if the path is extremely narrow and discourages backtracking
still i was amazed by the quality of the voice acting and the roleplaying(dialogues) but it just wasn't my cup of tea

i decided to give the sequel a chance though(since it couldn't get much worse)
i started the game with very low expectations i gained from DAO
and i got rewarded
i liked the cast, i liked the more action based combat(and the cut complexity) and above all i liked the story... or better the 3 stories
no stupid generic evil that falls upon the world with the hero to cleanse it
the story was much deeper and only revolved around complex political and social issues
and to that every character got his own little and interesting side story i could engage in
i simply loved the part with the serious and deep relationship with merrill
all those stories were masterpieces of character development

then again that's all my subjectivity
but to answer the question, NO it doesn't deserve hate(actually no game does)
DA2 has its merits and they should be acknowledged and not just forgotton by blowing up the bad stuff to ridiculous proportions
hating a sequel for not being the same as the previous game is in some point a bit strange anyway in times where everyone hates COD for staying the same

I've haven't played Dragon Age 2 (And probably won't because I didn't hook onto the first that much) But I believe it's one of those rare things that has really mixed reception, some love it & some hate it, there's no middle ground.

As much as I loved the second game, there was alot of appauling faults. Bioware can only make better games if people say what didn't work. That's called constructive feedback. You have to emphasise the negative otherwise they gain a false sense of security that things are 'fine' when they're not completely. In honest truth the game was a 60% success and a 40% failour. I did get immersed with the game and storyline but I never wanted to play it again, ever. I think the re-used enviroments were to blame. It felt like I did and saw everything at the end of the first walk through. Also, controlling different characters when my squishy rogue died and thinking very hard about each character's talent trees destroyed any sense of curiosity of wondering what the game would be liked if I played it differently. It also didn't help that Anders was the only Healing mage and Averline the only tank. I'm a purist to RPGs. You need and Tank and a Healer otherwise what you got is a strange brawler where you have to hold the hand of all your party npcs to make sure they don't walk into the fire. least with a tank and healer you don't have to be so motherly to your AI twatfaces.

They removed the interesting Arcane warrior, the melee mage. I'm always a fan of Hybrid and unconventional classes as I enjoy brainstorming and testing how to make this thing work to its full potential by using *anything* (e.g. Dual wield Tanking Death Knight in WOTLK in WoW)

In my opinion the second one was way better then the first. Origins was boring, and the only interesting character was Morrigan. The second one had better combat, a more interesting story and less useless equipment changes. Also, I love Kirkwall. I like it more then anywhere in Origins.

No, it does not deserve the hate it gets. If you take the game on it's own merits it's a fine addition to be honest. Some design changes I sure as hell didn't like(nerfed healing a big one) and the repetitive dungeons another, but once you start getting into the characters and improved combat it is an enjoyable game. Truly what I think went wrong is they tackled it as though it was the jumping in point of the Dragon Age world instead a continuation of that general story to attract new customers. But that's just my opinion.

Dragon Age 2 wouldn't be considered a bad game if DA:O never existed. But since it does, you have to compare the two. Bioware was always knows for improving their games in every installment. And then they came up with Dragon Age 2. Now DA2 did some things better than DA:O, like the combat. But it did everything else a lot worse. It was too simplified so that the average Joe can play it. It also took away almost everything that made DA:O so great - OPTIONS! So fuck average Joe. Pure RPG's aren't for average people anyway. That's why real RPG fans hate it. I played through DA:O 8 times. I only played DA2 once and I don't plan on playing it again any time soon.

It seems to me Bioware tried their best to completely detach the players from the game. DA:O was immersive, because of the dialogue system and mute character. DA2 was shit in that department and that's what I hate about it the most.

DA:2 in my mind is superior to DA:O due to three things:
1) Combat that isn't point and click.
2) party members have more to say and actual change and grow as the game progresses.
3) I liked the way the story was set up and preferred it over DA:O's

Both are good games and both share faults, of which the most notable is the reused environments but overall they are fun to play.

1.Enemy waves jumping out of nowhere
2.Exploring the same cave for the 10-th time.

It does deserve a lot of hate, even tho I enjoy this game I have to say that BW devs had to say to themselves "Phuck our customers, we're doing shortcuts all the way this time"

PROS:
The story was kinda nice (but it was more 3 story then one, but, still, fun).
I personally liked the dialog (even if my character sounded like a douche... but I think that's what I liked.... weirdly enough).
More dynamic fight mechanic then the first one.
I even liked most of the party members (I didn't thought that would happen)...

CONS:
Weak level design. VERY WEAK.
Hard difficulty level is just "MORE HP FOR ENEMIES" and "MORE ENEMIES" mode...
Freaking monster/enemies "spawning" in my tactical fight.
And I thought the ending was kinda weak...

???:
Less inventory management (I don't know if it's good or not).

So, yeah, I think it doesn't deserve "hate"... it just was a good game with some big flaws.

I won't go as far as to call it the "Worst game EVAR!" but its for the most part a shamelessly rushed game. Nothing entirely comes together, and everything lacks a sense of coherency. The game's story is awkward broken into the three parts with poor plot devices used to introduce them, and plot threads are often left dangling for a large portion of the game. Combat largely suffers due to its overly repetitious design with enemies popping into air, and waves being sent at you. This is a stark contrast to the hand placed encounters of games like BG2.

Its not terrible, its just awfully mediocre. Like around 5-6/10 game for me. I'm glad I rented it because its certainly not worth the purchase for me.
