Having a few issues with it.

I think origins was close to perfect, just needed a few tweaks... such as more dialogue when you're just walking round etc.

DA2 went too scaled down, it felt more like an expansion pack ... like awakening.

Now with inquisition, it seems like they took that criticism and swung too hard the opposite way!

But the skills and spell trees are still like in 2, crap. In one their seemed to be loads of skills and perks ... you had the herbalist, pick pocketing stuff and the actual skills.

You also had the ability almost programme your fellow travelers, if you're surrounded by X amount of bad guys do this or target X first etc, where has all that gone?

Where is blood magic? Why do I have to hold attack to attack?

I like the tactical camera that brings it closer to origins on the pc and a few other bits but other than that ... bit disappointed.
There is still lockpicking skills and herbalist and crafting related perks, but they are under the influence system now rather than in individual character sheets.

But otherwise, yeah, Bioware kind of has a habit of overcompensating for customer complaints, like axing the Mako entirely after ME1, or changing the romances in DA after people complained about companions hitting on them. Of course, then the people that liked those things crawl out of the woodwork and start complaining, so it seems like Bioware actually needs to tone it down on listening to its customers in some aspects.

Still liking the game so far though, and yes, it is funny to see the poll sitting at 90% good and great while the comments seem to be so negative, pretty much a textbook example of people being more vocal when they dislike something versus liking it.

A lot of developers seem to have that problem, going to far to one side and not finely balancing it. They need to stop using a sledgehammer when a regular hammer is called for. In addition to that, they experiment around too damned much from game to game, or even expansion to expansion. Even DLC has introduced something completely new only to never be seen again.

All 3 of the games play so differently while still being in the same friggin series. Mass Effect suffered the same problem.

They need to commit to a style and organically improve as they go instead of axing everything and doing a redesign all the time.

I'm 40 hours in now, and at first I was slightly underwhelmed. However; as soon as I got past the first act, things picked up significantly. Not that the first act sucked, or anything, it just gave me this impression like "If this is all the game is throughout the rest of it, I'll be a little bit disappointed".

Game's great, I'm lovin' it.

With the massive style change that came in DA2, I can't help but feel that the DA series is in a bit of an identity crisis, Bioware wants to bring in the people that liked DA:O's tactical throwback to NWN and BG2, while still keeping the people that like DA2's actiony combat, as well as the bigger audience that more action oriented games tend to bring in. All this whilst still being playable on consoles

Which kind of leads to DA:I's combat system where Bioware seems to be trying to maintain both the action and the tactical system at the same time, which leads to a lot of the issues with it being not actiony enough, and still not very tactical at times either. It's an alright system that gets me through the combat just fine, but I often feel like the mechanics are splitting themselves between trying to appeal to two very different audiences, and wrestling with a control system obviously designed for consoles first makes that even more readily apparent.

Yeah, the game really comes into its own when you finally get out of the Hinterlands and away from the basic questlines asking you to do really mundane things, the Hinterlands is a pretty zone, but the quests are overwhelming if you try and play completionist on each zone before moving on. Jumping from zone to zone and clearing each one out in separate chunks has made the game much more entertaining, as you tend to open up multiple story related missions all going on at the same time after you get Skyhold, it makes the massive zones much easier to do in smaller manageable chunks.

As someone who has never played any of the other DA games, I do not like this game. I just can't get into the combat at all. Flat out, the action combat in Dragon's Dogma is superior to DA and I can't help but compare these games every time I get into an encounter with some insipid enemy in DA. I just keep asking myself why I keep myself playing it instead of popping in DD.

A good thing however is that they crafted the game in such a way that I am not totally lost on the story. So yeh, I can kind of grasp the story, but the combat sucks, and the tactical camera thing is a nuisance. This game doesn't want to commit one way or another, so it feels really jumbled mechanically.
They are trying to do a half measure where they appease to action fans and tactics fans. They should go full on one way or another. I wouldn't mind action-oriented combat like Dragon's Dogma. That is fun to play. Combat in this game is just something I hold my nose and do to get to the next bit with writing.

Game is good actually. Its taken a little getting used to.

I have a few technical concerns but I can't check if they're bugs or not because I got caught in the "Fuck You, Angry ME3 Fans" ban wave back in 2012 and haven't been welcome on the BSN since. I guess I could use a smurf account to figure it out but I can't be bothered plus they seem to have a really aggressive cookie system that seems to know who you are if you're logged into Origin like..at all, and I can't even log out of the forum banned account.

Anyways ridiculous forum ban aside (all I did was tell people if they didn't like ME3's ending to not buy DLC for the game to voice their opinions more effectively than just standing around screaming about it), and my inability to check on outstanding release bugs that I might or might not be experiencing, I think the game is pretty solid....it feels a lot like DA2 stepped backwards, met up with DA:O and they had a bastard child that neither one will really claim fully, but is brilliant enough on its own to rise above mediocrity.

I like how, often, the barrier comes up a full 2 seconds after the ram is dead.

You're right, Solas, there may be more in the area out for revenge. Good work.

OT: Voted Great. Spent like 20 hours playing it the last 5 days. Will probably spend many more.

As soon as I get a load more free time to myself I intend to indulge a day of play but for the most part the game has been great. Not flawless, hell no. I honestly think the weak points here are the PC's insane control scheme where melee plays better with a game pad, and honestly the companions are pretty ordinary outside of Varric and Cassandra.
